Hey everyone I have been a reader of the forums for a long time and just recently joined... I have a 1986 fleetwood rwd with the 5 litre 307 everything was fine untill I turned the cars ignition backwords into the acc position. now my no charge light is on and im getting weird movie laser like sounds out of my subwoofers and when I turn it up my amp goes into protect mode and shuts off also I dont think it would have anything to do with this but I replaced the valve covers just today also which is when the problem started everything is tight and connected properly:confused: :crybaby: this thing has been a pain :thepan: but its my birth year and model i want and in feb im starting a 500 swap if i can find one around here or some one to freight it to me for a decent amount of money everyone i have talked to wants around 1300 for the engine shipped and im trying to swap on 3 grand so 1300 for the engine is a little exspensive any ideas on where to start? thank you all for help in adnvance :worship: I hope to become a normal poster on these forums:thumbsup:

could my problem be my alternator or my voltage regulator?

Is the problem only when the key is in the acc position? What kind of amp is it?

that is when it started I put the key into the acc position listend to my stereo while tightening the valve covers turned key forward and on started the car no charge light stayed on after everything else shut off drove got oil filled oil drove home turned stereo up amp went into protect mode and shut off turned down amp came back on turned up again same thing. blinkers turn on but dont blink or blink slow didnt check headlights or tail lights also my driver side window quite working about the same time....electrical short maybe? wire fall off switch in door and is grounding out?

Charge your battery. You drained it with your system running with the car off. If that doesn't help, it is time for a new alternator.

If alt was bad wouldnt the car die relativly quickly after starting especially if i drained the batt too far with my stereo in the first place plus had it running while driveing (not argueing just curious)? Also is their any advice on tuning these carbs I think im running way rich its hella strong gas smell and engine idles fine when first started let it sit a min u can start to smell gas really bad then chokes out and dies.and checked for leaks and their isnt any am I looking at rebuilding the carb to make this a daily untill my engine swap?

I'd say try slow charging the battery and/or have your alternator tested.

I havent gotten around to testing my battery or my alternator Im thinkin im gonna buy a deep cycle kenetic battery and a bigger amp alternator and a farad cap to complete my stereo for now. does the 86 307 have the egr valve? could that be my other problem is their is a vacume leak or this is plugged up? should the silver bendable tube coming off the exhaust manifold on the driver side be hooked up to my stock air breather tub? its positioned properlly for such it just isnt connected. I see topics all over the forum about what engine swaps could be done has anyone actually gone through with an engine swap in this car and if they have can they give me any advice I have been talking to a guy at CAD500parts.com and he said with their oil pump and mount kit an eldo oil pan and any other big block caddi header I would be able to bolt in the 500 big block. as fa as tranny goes swappiing it out for a 400 just consists of moving the crossmember back and rebolting it and if I got a 400 tranny out of a BOP it should bolt right to the engine and too the drive line is atleast how I understood it can anyone confirm this or suggest an easyer swap. this is my first swap ever so im trying to find somthing that would be easyest but still bring me some serious improvement in power Im not really worried about gas mileage. if I got the driveline and rear end out of an old lac that had the 400 with the different rear gearing would this bolt right in?

EGR should be located on the intake manifold next to the throttle linkage, just above the driver's side valve cover. From what I hear, the 307s are really touchy when it comes to a clogged EGR valve or passageway. I've removed mine on my 307 and covered the hole in the intake manifold to accommodate my Edelbrock carburetor, so I wouldn't really know from experience. (Works fine w/o an ERG though. lol :))

Which bendable tubes are you talking about? Are you talking about the AIR tubes that look like brake lines going into the heads right above the exhaust manifold? As far as I remember, the driver's side on mine weren't connected to anything above the block. I had a bad exhaust leak coming from that so I had them closed off and welded closed. (Don't have any AIR system in my car anymore anyway...)

Or are you talking about the vacuum line that runs down to the exhaust pipe on the driver's side that acts like an exhaust choke?

I can't really give you any info on the 500 swap unfortunately... My swap was from a HT4100 to the Olds 307. :)

it is a silver bendable airduct type pipe has the consistency of tinefoil looks like part of an ac system in bigger buildings make sense?

That is the hot air pipe from the manifold to the intake to heat the intake air.

for the subs, the bigger alternator is a great idea, we went with a 160amp and the belts dont make noise anymore. for the 500 build, follow this thread...http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/rwd-19xx-1984-deville-fleetwood-1985/173101-build-cadillac-500cid.html this is the one I'm building thats at the machine shop now. As for the pipes coming off your manifolds, they need to be plugged. All your smog stuff is probably disconnected. As for the car dying, check the vacuum line routings to make sure they are correct according to the emissions sticker and that everything on the carb can move freely. My money is on a fault in the vacuum lines like a bad hose or wrong connection.

Thank you for the reply csbuckn I will add the link to my favorites and check the vacume lines
