Hi All! LONG story short... 2000 Deville, C.A. emissions with TWO secondary air injection pumps (unusual from what Im hearing... fought with MANY about this but I HAVE REPLACED THEM BOTH SO I KNOW THEY ARE THERE! My guess is early production model car so GM later figured out that they could get away with ONE pump instead.) Both pumps where melted due to what I found out to be bad air injection valves allowing exhaust to continually flow OUT through the pump housings, melting them. I replaced both pumps with new. Good deal, pumps run great. STILL have exhaust flowing out the inlets after the pump shuts off though. Did a lil troubleshooting and found both valves to be non functional (no change with presense OR lack of vacuum). ALSO the vacuum control solenoid apparantly is doing NOTHING as well. It draws current on the bench, but I hear NO clicking noise or anything so I assume its frozen. I pulled apart the FRONT valve and discovered that apparantly heat over the last 180k miles (yep... she has ALOT) must have done its job to warp the inner housing that the little metal flap seals against, causing the leakage. I assume the rear valve looks the same inside. (Holy CRAP! I DID say long story short didnt I? lol) Also noticed some white residue on the pump outlet that was kinda crusty and smelled like dexcool. Possible head gasket leakage? ANYWAY... here is where I am at. First of all... how the HELL did the ENTIRE system fail. I understand the cascade effect of the pumps melting after the valve malfunction... but the solenoid TOO? I guess that failed FIRST? So I have brand new pumps (not driving the car till I get this all fixed so I dont melt the NEW ones!). I got a price of like 195 for the front valve and 230 for the rear. I HATE the idea of spending money on the EMISSIONS system of a 180k mile car but I gotta get through NJ state inspection and they fail you if the check engine light is on automatically. Im assuming used valves will have the same problem as mine. Does anyone have any suggestions here? On a limited budget to say the least. I could just about afford all the parts if need be but afraid once I fix that I will find out there is something ELSE wrong with the system! (pretty much all replaced by then no? lol)
HELP! Please? Anyone got any old valves in good shape they wanna sell? Thanks!
