View Full Version : How many miles are to many on a used 6.0 basscat348 11-03-09, 11:43 PM Hello im marcus newbie here.I am wanting to buy a 2002 escalade with a 6.0 in it but it has 145,000 miles on it.Should I be worried about the mileage or tranmission or anything else? I am very mechanically inclined so i can fix things, just looking for some input.I have never owned a vehicle with over 60k on it before.

depends on how it was cared for by the previous ower(s) as well as how much they are asking for it.
If it were me, I would be looking for something newer though.... bstiffmanofsteel 11-04-09, 12:04 PM Its not that no one wants to help you out, but that is a judgement call. My .02 says thats a lot of mileage, hopefully you're getting a great price... KrazyKeith 11-04-09, 12:34 PM Its a GM 6.0 liter, Should run for another 100k if it was maintained the corrrect way.
I have an 03 with about 115k on it now, Bought it with 80k, The truck has been good to me so I'd say you should be good! smelly$cat 11-04-09, 12:58 PM I would recommend a compression test on the engine. That should tell you how tight it is. If it's good, then, just keep changing the oil and it should last.
If the tranny has never been replaced or rebuilt, I would really push to find out how often the fluid has been changed. If that data is unavailable, drive it a lot and see how well it shifts etc... If it shifts well, go for it.
Tranny's can work perfect one day and break the next, so, all you can really do is drive it and check maintenance records.
My 03 ESV has ~115 on it. The previous owner had the transmission overhauled already. nathanjax 11-04-09, 02:18 PM I know someone with 300k on his tahoe and it's running fine.
Like others have said, it ALL depends on the maint and how well the vehicle is taken care of... sam hamm 11-04-09, 03:22 PM I know someone with 300k on his tahoe and it's running fine.

Come on.... Your on the forum as well... I know you've seen the thread...
http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=20 My 02 has 132k on it. It runs perfect. BUT it was a one owner who had every service record for it, threw the caddy dealership. Like the rest of the guys have said already, just depends on how well it was taken care of. oldworld 11-04-09, 10:37 PM I have some work vans (ford) with 250K miles on them. Still running very strong. Take care of them though! Not impossible CaNiBusCK 11-05-09, 08:33 AM It is definately a maintainance thing. My 02 has 115 on it and runs great. A good friend of mine owns a limo company, the caddy suv stretches they use have the same 6.0 engine and they can easily go over 300,000. It has to do with taking care of your stuff and not driving it like a race car. Buying used is always a risk. Research is all you can do ...... and cross fingers of course. sam hamm 11-05-09, 10:34 AM Come on.... Your on the forum as well... I know you've seen the thread...

It's ok, he's mad cause mines lower ;) i got an 02 with 130,000 i bought it a year and a half ago with 112,000 and i have not had any problems except for small stuff like my alternator and starter but they were both covered under warranty. I was skeptical of buying a car with that kind of mileage so i got a 2 year warranty with it |
