It couldn't make it overseas because the steering wheel is on the wrong side....

It shouldn't be in the states with a 4 cylinder engine though....that's just wrong.

I love that it's listed as the "European Version of the CTS".

No wonder it failed in Europe... it doesn't even remotely remind me of a real Cadillac. Kinda reminds me of how Catera was in '97.

At least every other Cadillac(USA anyway) has enough motor and content to make them more butch than that thing...

Funny- I didn't see any Chryslers entered in the CTS-V challenge at Monticello. Surely they could have stomped the "homo" Cadillac, right?

That's not the European version of the CTS. The European version of the CTS is the CTS.

That's the Cadillac BLS which is a SAAB underneath (and inside to a large extent).

Sales have been *very* poor.

It was on sale for about 23,000 (UK Pounds) with a diesel engine but in the end you could buy a pre-registered (delivery miles) one for 14,000 (UK Pounds) brand new as they just couldn't sell them. You can buy a used one today for about 5,000 (UK Pounds).

^ Yes, the BLS was a badge-engineered Saab 9-3.

Saab does not translate well into Cadillac. That looks more like what the next generation Caterra would have been, and I mean that will all of implications of being a crappy product.

Huh? What? The thing looks exactly like the spawn of a CTS and DTS if they had a baby. It looks like every other 2005+ Cadillac. Please...

And Saab was still GM last time i checked...err...no its not...theyre Koenigsegg's now. +1 for that. GM ruined Saab. The last good Saab was a Subaru. Im glad the Svedes have them back.

What I mean by that is that the new Saabs are good looking cars. The BLS is NOT. Something just looks off about the whole styling of the car to me. The gauges look like they were swiped from a Kia bin and the headlights give the car a cross-eyed look.

1. FWD
2. 4 cylinder
3. automatic
4. gauges and steering wheel lifted straight from a Saab

What a sad little fail-box. I mean it has the same mechanical setup as a 1992 Accord or any other econobox on the road today.

While it would still be ugly...the BLS might have been a decent small car if it had the 9-3 Turbo X's powertrain....2.8Lturbo , near 300 hp, Haldex XWD, 6 speed manual, etc...

How is that illegal? I don't understand, it's titled and everything.

If I ever imported something, no matter what it was, it would HAVE to be RHD. The possibilities of messing with people on the road are literally endless.

blue07cts

usually when a car like that is imported it's illeagally because it's amost impossible and VERY exspensive to get it thru customs, pass EPA guidlines and get a title for a car like that, so a lot of times when you see a car like that it's illeagle.

Stingroo
11-06-09, 10:59 AM
So how did they register it?

And does that go for like, all cars? Because a friend of mine in high school had a RHD RX7 Infini that he had tagged and drove every day.

Man.. memories of what we used to do with that car. lol I think my favorite (non dangerous) RHD car activity was going through drive thru's in reverse. People looked at us like we were retarded. LOL

That is not true at all. Here in Florida, you can register anything(and i mean anything) as a kit car. Getting imported cars titled and registered here is almost too easy. A lot of people will register their car here because its so easy, and then take it back to their home state. I see RHD imports all the time.

We also have no emissions inspections, or any other type of inspections at all. You can drive anything you want.

I drove a '71 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow that was RHD at the auction i used to work at. It was probably the coolest thing ever. Driving a RHD car is pretty disorienting, but it takes hours to wipe the shit-eating grin off of your face afterward. It sold for $6k. It needed new upholstery but was otherwise very nice.

That's true about the inspections. I never knew the kit car registration thing though. Interesting.

And yeah. That shit-eating grin never gets old. And when you drive with the windows down and look at people, and they look confused back at you... priceless.

The Catera is an Opel. The Cobalt is a much better car than the Cavalier ever thought about.
