I've been having some issues with the car starting and had posted a question a while back, and me and another forum member ended up coming to the conclusion that it is probably the ignition switch but i tried removing the top and bottom covers and was only able to remove the bottom cover from the steering wheel column, I couldnt figure out how to get the top one out, has anyone changed the ignition switch on this model before?

With the lower column shroud removed, look up under the top shroud on the underside of it on the passenger side of the column. You see a small Torx headed screw that needs to come out before you can lift the shroud free. You'll need a Torx socket (it's pretty small). Probably one of the few tools I don't have, but I was able to remove it with some patience and a pair of pliers.

hello gentlemen,
I know its a bit late but I have a serious problem which kind of relates.....My ignition switch stopped working yesterday. I worked on my 2001 seville sts, sucessfully replacing the plenum boot (which seems to be a common problem on these cars)....Now after everything was put back together I went to start my vehicle (located half way in my parents upsloping garrage and half way on the side walk ) and the key WILL NOT TURN AT ALL!?!?!?! I tried all the tricks, turning the wheel, jostling the stick, even wiggling the key back and forth for two hours straight....nothing works...I finally deciede to remove the ignition switch cylinder and replace it. I have the stereo and a/c unit out and can see the switch, but per the attachment I have to turn the ignition switch to run to get it out.....is there ANY other way to remove this switch/cylinder without being able to turn the switch to run???? PLEASE ADVISE....thanks!!

BTW....this is for a 99 seville but Im sure it also applies to mine....thanks in advance!!

Please don't hijack threads. Post this in the Seville section. The Seville switch is on the dash and the Deville is on the column.
