I just purchased a new boat and the trailer has surge brakes. The trailer is wired with a soleniod that turns off the brakes to backup without applying the brakes. Does anyone know if the factory harness has a connection from the reverse lights or tranny for this? Or do I need to run a lead from the reverse lights to the 7 point connection?

I have seen so many problems with surge brakes on trailers, my trailers have electric brakes because when you need to stop many times the surge brakes do nothing after a few dips in the water. If you have to tow anywhere there are hills or mountains I would get electric brakes installed, just offers more safety and control. I "think" I have the wire harness info at home with the different trailer receivers, I will check

Thanks Carl, If you could find the harness info it would be great. I agree on the electric but I tow the boat from my house to the launch which is about a mile. It's a pain to have to get out and put the "key" in the trailer to back up. It always falls out and then the tires lock up.

I did not look where you live, and you are right it's flat and you will have no issues in your case. My paper says:

Dark Blue - Auxiliary
Red/Black - Battery
Light Blue/White - Brake Switch
White - Ground

Brake switch meaning the reverse lock out and not for the brake controller. Just wnat to make sure

I think it would be for either, it would be what you would want to hook to IMO

I think I disagree. If it's for the brake controller and I connect to it when it's hot it would ENGAGE the brakes. If its for the reverse lock out, when shifted into reverse, it would energize the soleoid to RELEASE the brakes. Am I explaining it correctly?

I understand hit the brakes and they get locked out lol, I thought that there is a reverse light lead on the 7pin . Sorry I can't help on the colors .
