View Full Version : Cts-V trans(M12) bolted in a Cts Cad4life 11-02-09, 12:19 PM Ok so I just talked to a performance shop and for a starting firgure he said $800-$900 to fab a cts-v transmission in our cts's
Im 80% sure ill be going through with this, other factors/ problems is getting ahold of a cts-v console, eliminating check-engine light through conversion.
The shop did say that they could do the labor for like 300 but I know thats not including swapping the center console.
He asked for me to un bolt my trans bring the cts-v trans and they will make an adapter. Seems like a lot of work if i dont have them put it in.
Im wondering if any cadillac technicians can get ahold of the engines transmission mounting specs and mounting specs for the V's transmission.
I will be searching as well, just thought id put the word out, i realy hope this will work out lol
Thanks!
P.S. THANKS K.O.T. FOR THE HELP!!!!! Ray06CTS 11-02-09, 04:05 PM That seems toooooo cheap for alot of work... unless he has done it before, ASIDE from that why would you want to put a 6 speed trans on a stock 3.6 that already comes equipped with a reliable 5spd ?? ghettomike 11-02-09, 05:52 PM I think that is just to fab the bellhousing... Not worth it...
What is it that you want about the cts-v manual tranny? Gear ratios?
You may be better off just rebuilding yours with the gear ratios you want.
Is your car currently auto or manual? Cad4life 11-02-09, 06:04 PM my car is an auto 5spd, and yea he's done it before, aparently all they are goin to do is make a plate that takes the new trans bolt config and at the same time uses countersunk bolts, kinda like the idea behind a hub adapter. My friends vette has an m12 and damn is that thing awesome, i always want a sixth gear, kinda like super overdrive lol
and if this way maybe i can put in a 3.90 :) ...depending on highway rpms 4.10 :)) Why not just put the Aisin 6 speed from the CTS in it? Cad4life 11-04-09, 10:02 AM What year CTS was that in, i mean yea i would do that, if i knew about it hahaha
but the m12 also some such aggressive gears, i love it
this is a link a KOT sent me....

if there is a six speed GREAT!!! concorso 11-04-09, 10:33 AM What year CTS was that in, i mean yea i would do that, if i knew about it hahaha

if there is a six speed GREAT!!!Right at the top of the link, 2 lines below the Tremec T56....• Aisin AY6 (MV1)CTS Transmission
There were 2 manual trans available. A 5 spd Getrag for 2003-4, and the 6spd Aisin for 2005-2007. IIRC, The manual trans was standard on the 2.8L, with the auto being an option. Cad4life 11-04-09, 12:18 PM does anyone know what the highway rpms are at like 65 mph with that 6spd?
Ill go that route definitely, damn now i dont know whether to do the six spd or the m12
i know from drivng the with the m12 that its badass , anyone got a 6spd ? concorso 11-04-09, 06:10 PM does anyone know what the highway rpms are at like 65 mph with that 6spd?

I dont have the numbers in front of me, but Id bet that the rpms in 6th gear with the Tremec T56 will be alot lower then with the Aisin 6 spd. Cad4life 11-04-09, 06:22 PM REally? you dont think so?
Ok the reason i state its bad ass is beacuse my t56 in my vette comparison to my friends short thrown Z06 (M12) is amzing cause the wind up is so fast, and the reason i want a lower highway rpm is so i have some leeway with what gears i can put in the rear, now for a M12 a 3.90 just about does it at least in my friends z06
but a t56, i would definitely put a 4.10 in if i can. Maybe you all can help me out with the numbers here wat i put together in word:
CTS (Aisin AY6) 6spd
First: 4.15
Second: 2.33
Third: 1.53
Fourth: 1.15
Fifth: 1
Six: 0.79
Reverse: 3.67
(M12)
First: 2.97
Second: 2.07
Third: 1.43
Fourth: 1
Fifth: 0.84
Sixth: 0.57
Reverse: 2.9
the guy at the shop said if i know what gear and spd and rpm my car does with the stock trans, i can find out what i will do with these...
My car at 65mph in 5th gear runs like 2100 rpms. concorso 11-04-09, 08:55 PM I understand your reasoning...both trans from the V and Z06 have a tall 6th gear. So, I guess you could go to a more aggressive rear set without sacrificing highway mileage...at least thats what youre aiming at? Give you more aggressive gearing in the lower gears, faster acceleration...but that tall 6th would keep the rpms low when youre cruising... it makes sense. The only benefits i see from the Aisin is lower weight and and possibly the ability to bolt right up without any fab... hmmm Cad4life 11-04-09, 09:25 PM concorso your are speaking my language man, im glad u understand where im comin from!!
Yes i want more agressive gears, i want to also have a 3.90 or 4.10 in the rear, depending if i go with a t56 or a M12 , since i have the vette, my friend brougt up a very good idea. if i use the t56 out of my vette and put that into the cts and put an m12 in my vette, which is something ive been wanting to do anyways.
my layout so far is if i do a t56 ill most likely do 4.10
if i do the M12 ill put a 3.90 at most depending on how where the rpms drop or raise to
can anyone helpp me how to calculate that?
other than those two trans. i think im gonna leave the Aisin out of questioning | |
