Hello, folks.

I'm new to cadillacs, being a mercedes 300td and peugeot 505 driver, but i'm the DeVille way, now.

I'm in Athens, Ga and am the new owner of a beautiful, pristine 100,000 mile white 1996 DeVille. UNFORTUNATELY someone busted the passenger side window and then tore up the ignition lock cylinder.

Here's what i understand that i have to do......

1. de power car and wait a while and remove fuse, as well (in trunk?)

2. remove airbag (torx screws on the back of the steering wheel) then unplug wiring to bag and BE CAREFUL. Tips? is this a reasonably safe thing to do??

3. Mark position and pull steering wheel to obtain access to ignition lock cylinder?? I'm assuming that the cylinder can not be removed any other way?

4.WHERE do i obtain lock cylinder (preferably keyed the same as existin key? Isn't the door lock the same as ignition?? And don't i have to have correct resister value for the key for the security system to read??

5. Is this going to be a big complicated deal or what??

6. Does anyone have a good passenger front window glass for this car, for sale?

thanks xx rick

Try salvage yards for the window.

Once you pull the air bag fuses enough time will have passed before you get to the air bag that it will be safe to handle. Like a gun, keep it pointed in a safe direction.

Once you get a new cylinder any dealer or locksmith should be able to key it to you key.

I can't remember if the '96 lock cylinder is in the column or under a column shroud (like mine). If it is in the column, then you'll need a lock plate depressor tool to get past the lock plate. I've done it without one, but it takes 3 hands and way longer than it should have. You can get one at the "HELP" rack at most auto parts stores.
