Hi everyone today when i checked the oil and also opened the oil filler cap looked inside and motor is spotless no sludge or anything the motor runs great and i can't belie how clean the motor is inside it's been well maintained I hope my 4.9 makes it to 300,000-400,000 thousand miles. It's only got 102,000 on it right now.

Mine has 190,000 on it and whenever I pull the dipstick the oil is always clean. I've never had an engine that keeps the oil so clean. It must have zero blowby. I'm going to be sorry to see it go but all good things must come to an end. You should have many more miles left in your Caddy.

Find something else to do....your 4.9 likely will NOT need a rebuild that early.

My '91 DeVille 4.9 has 257,500 miles on it, and as far as I know, the engine has not been rebuilt (I bought the car with 200,000 miles on it four years ago). It also looks clean under the oil filler cap, not spotless, but no sludge either. I usually have to add a quart in between oil changes, but I don't consider that a problem considering the age and mileage. And the car still runs beautifully.

I've got 172,000 on my '95's tranny. Even has boat pulling duties :) I'll admit, I go overboard with it's maintenance. I started changing trans fluid once a year after putting a hitch on it.

235k on my '93 Eldo w/ the 4.9L. I change the oil around every 5-6k...the oil filter @ 10k. Never changed the trans fluid, nor filter.....and, I've run straight water in in the cooling system for the last 2-3 years (I do NOT recommend using the maintenance schedule that I've used!).

I have 285,000 miles on my 91' sedan deville and just need to replace the driver side axle and passenger side wheel hub.

because i want my car to last not die on me at 200,000 i wanna see how long i can make it last with maintanance if it will make it last like 400,000 - 500,000 miles

You can make any car run for as long as you like. It's all relative to the amount of resources the owner wants to put into the vehicle.

In this cars case, the drivetrain probably isn't going to be the limitation. The suspension, brakes, electronics, etc. are all going to be the major resistance.

That or getting in a wreck :ill:

Why? :suspect:

2-3 years ago, I had a slow coolant leak and could not find the leak's source. To reduce the dollars spent on the replacement coolant, I simply went to refilling w/ water. At close to 200k miles at that time, I had thought that the engine or trans had to be near the end of their useful life and the plan was to junk the car when the engine or trans let go.

Well, that major engine or trans failure never happend and my 4.9L continues to motor along, now @ 235k miles. (btw, with a dent in the trunk, rust in the wheelwells, AC not working, and the ELC not working, my eldo is in much-less-than-perfect condition. As mentioned in an earlier post, I would NOT recommend this straight-water-as-coolant-thing on anyone's vehicle that is in good condition.)

wow what have you been doing to it jus regular oil and coolantant maintanance??Yes. I change out the coolant every two years and use the sealant tabs and change the oil at around 4,000 miles or when the oil life monitor is between 20 and 30% (using Valvoline MaxLife). I've replaced a few components like the engine control module, Hall effect switch, EGR valve, ISC motor and the fuel injectors, but otherwise, I haven't touched the engine.

Wow! 257K?? Nevermind the engine... How's the tranny?I had the transmission rebuilt at 216,000 miles because I was getting the E39 code for the torque converter lockup. The tranny was working fine otherwise, but I decided to bite the bullet and do the rebuild rather than have it fail. I visited the shop during the rebuild process, and the mechanic showed me some of the parts; they were pretty well worn.

After taking care of some neglected maintenance items in the first few months I had the car, it ended up being quite reliable. It's no longer my daily driver since I bought the Seville, but I have enough confidence in the car that I'm giving it to my niece for her first car.

I've run straight water in in the cooling system for the last 2-3 years (I do NOT recommend using the maintenance schedule that I've used!).

You must live in an extremely warm climate where it never gets below freezing. The water freezing in the coolant passages can crack the head/block(I know this because my dumbass friend filled his Land Cruiser with straight water after he replaced on of the radiator hoses, cracked the head).
