I'm sure most of you guys already know this. This is for those who don't.

I traded in my CSRT8 with an extended warranty. Price was not figured in the trade-in and these warranties normally can not be transferred to the dealer. So I got my payoff letter from the bank, took my odometer disclosure to the previous dealer the warranty was purchased from and figured I'd get a prorated check in a couple weeks.

Turns out I get a phone call and the previous dealer told me that my extended warranty was already transferred to another 'private party' and then sold from a dealer. Normally the only way extended warranties can be transferred is from one private party to another.

So I had to fax a letter to Chrysler service contract whatever stating I never authorized this and they will be canceling the extended warranty and cut me a check. Unfortunately some poor guy is going to take his car in for extended warranty repair someday and find out he paid for one but was canceled. How nice is that?

And no I don't think it was the Cadillac dealership.

FWIW

I had a similar occurance with BMW and my M6. I totaly forgot about the extended warranty that I purchased and my wife, the CPA that she is,
called and as a result we received a reimbursement check for 4m. I didn't own the car long. They would not have reminded me.

So, I think the moral of the story is make sure you don't forget about the extended warranty and see if $ is due you.

Yes the moral of the story is it is YOUR money and if you don't want it, somebody else definitely does and will take it.

What burbs you in if you don't mind my asking? Used to live in NW burbs. Now just my parents are there now.
