You can actually have some decent play in the "weenie cars" early in career. Only took me 3 hrs. to build up enough "Experience Cash" to afford the V in my virtual garage. I think it's the first time my young kids realized that my car is really cool, since it's in a video game.

Nutz, what do you think about the driving behavior of the V in FM3? I only did a quick test but found it to be quite off: wheel-spin (with TCS on) is excessive and I only got a 6.x sec 0-60 time. Steering range is also quite limited.

The TCS is the game doesn't model the actual TCS in car. On the gran turismo games, there was even a slider to adjust how sensitive it was (which of course doesn't exist in real life). On the last Forza, they had the 300 modeled as what seemed like a mac truck. It wouldn't turn or brake at all compared to the real car (I own one). It is no sports car but the real one is much better than the in game one. Most of the other cars seemed pretty realistic. I think they just guess on the handling of a lot of the non tuner type cars.

It looks pretty good. Microsoft uses 3d scanners to capture the gemetry of the cars making the pretty spot on.

If I were to point out one flaw it would have to do with the offset/size/width of the tires. It appears that they're using a single rim size for all four corners leaving the rear tires appearing either too small for the fenders or the fender bulges too large for the tire.

Other than that...good job.

In all seriousness what you're trying to describe is probably the most difficult aspect of developing a racing game, especially a simulation.

Perception of speed in video games is very difficult to achieve without camera tricks. Generally speaking you need to move a virtual car at 120MPH in order to provide the sensation of "real life" 60MPH. Racing games that are developed for a more "arcade" feel can get away with this because you can modify the track design and handling physics to deal be friendly towards "unrealistic" speeds. With a "close" simulation (forza/GTourismo) you can't modify the tracks (especially real tracks) to accomodate an exagerated rate of movement. The net effect is that you never feel as if you're going as fast as the virtual car is actually going.

When I'm playing a racing game, I usually end up in a first person/bumper camera view because it closes the gap between percieved and actual speed enough that the game becomes easier to play.

I played for about four hours last night, best car I have right now is an A-class E36 M3. Such a fantastic game.

I'm so tempted to run to game stop and just buy the game... but I don't want to carry the balance on my credit card for a month. Granted, it won't be bad, but still. Gah.

I played for about four hours last night, best car I have right now is an A-class E36 M3. Such a fantastic game.C6-R #4 with "Jake" on the hood. Sticks like super glue, and wicked fast! Can't help but think of "Short Throw" with every pop between the sequential gears.
Oh, and I have to give props to the slight supercharger whine that escapes from the 09 Cts-V.:rockon:

The Koenigsegg track car is a joke with the TC off. Like being on ice.

I discovered and fell in love with that #4 C6.R Vette in forza 2. It became my favorite car to drive. It just FEELS great and drives like you'd expect a corvette to drive. Don't know about forza 3, but in EVERY other racing game, sim or not, the Corvettes always look and "FEEL" really big and heavy..

This one was light on its feet, nimble and fast. Agree with your sentoment on the short throw.

Also, haven't heard the Forza 3 C6.R vette but if its as good or better than the forza 2 version it will be SWEET.

how is the tuning in FM3?? i felt very let down with the tuning in FM2, well that whole game let me down. if i could design the ingame tuning of a car game I'd combine the tuning from GT4 and need for speed under ground 2. i might grab up FM3 just because i cant stand FM2 any more and i cant wait for GT5(if it ever even come out) much longer. I love racing games but haven't really enjoyed any recently. i'd like to also check out NFS shift. the reason i'm really waiting for GT5 besides the fact that in all honestly the GT games are simply the best racing games ever, but 2nd they offer a lot more cars too choose from. other than the V what other cars stand out? IE not honda civics and the likes. I am always sadden by the lack of american cars in those games. i mean throw us a last gen Monty or something thats not a mustang/camero/vett. and maybe give us like 100 less hondas,

I haven't played my 360 in so long, I couldn't justify buying it right away.
Forza 2 was always my favorite game though and my brother said the 3 demo is pretty awesome.

I'm still impressed with the FM2 graphics, and then they say FM3 has like, what, 100x more polygons per car? Wow. And still 60fps.

The main area I desired improvement was track selection.. FM2 was pretty limited.. Oh, and less tuner/race cars replaced with more common production cars.

Can anyone confirm that it has a T/A WS6? Seems that car is rarely included in racing games :hmm:

i agree with your opinion on the interior shot. all the interior shots are that way but, when you stop to think about 400+ cars all with modeled interiors, it becomes understandable.


the outside of the cars look so nice that i dont mind what the insides look like.

besides, on the rare occasion that i decide to use cockpit view, im so busy watching the road and other cars that i completly forget the lack of textures and shifting animations (i'll be the one to say it since someone would have eventually)

i left my aveo after a day and im still rollin my maxed out Lancia Delta Integrale EVO. I'm keeping up with Lambos and Ferrari's. Its kinda fun bouncing back and forth between C425 class and S700+ class.

I'm at work now so im gonna (try to) design a livery on paper and see if i can transfer it to the game. I have a feeling this Delta is going to be my go to car the way it was in Forza 2

On the other hand though i definitely want to try out new cars, i mean, whats the point of a new game if im gonna play it the same way right?

I dont see this. I count about 40 GM cars (NOT including Holden, Opel,Vauxhall). I count about 30 Honda cars, and approx 30 Toyota cars. There are less Nissans. Even if you dont include import brands only sold in N. America, the N.America contingent is as big or bigger then any other country... Rough estimate says there are more of the Big 3 then the Asian big 3...

And when you consider that more asians will buy this game then N. Americans, its understandable theyd include sop many asian cars...

Asians buy GT5, because asians buy the PS3. Americans buy the 360

Nice job. Your state troopers must be hard to pick out. Ours drive white cars with a giant yellow stripe all the way around. It is, IMO, one of the best looking police cars out there though.

There are about 10 variations of cruiser around here. Most common is a standard white Crown Vic with blue side graphics etc. My least favorite is the dark blue Ford Explorer with silver "POLICE" on the side.. hard to spot.

well admittedly, Gran Turismo 5 is supposed to have a slight edge when it comes to graphics or photorealism

Foza has IMO a better physics engine and much better features. you cold never create custom paint bfore on gran turismo, and you can on forza. gran turismo is finally embracing damage where forza has been doing it since the first game. gran turismo didnt have an auction house where you could sell your creations as long as people are willing to buy em...

you could say im kinda like you. the last game i bought for my xbox was street fighter 4 in february. other than that i let my brothers buy them and borrow theirs haha. ive been playing forza 2 for months and i think ill be playing forza 3 for a while to come...

Photo mode applies all kinds of effects that aren't used in game (like 4x anti-aliasing to get rid of the jaggies), but when you upload a picture to their server that has a forced focus on one car, the engine drops the poly count and bump-mapping on the background objects that are now out of focus. Hence, the ugly low poly strip.

I guess "tips" wasn't the best word to describe on my part. All of the exhaust "outlets," if you will, are there. But rather, the chrome tip on one of them was missing (so it looked a bit smaller than the rest).

Also IIRC, the windshield wipers were on backwards on the CTS-V (04') in FM2.

No, it's good. Just adjust the settings on your account accordingly and it won't reduce the quality.

Little late here but my buddy rented the game and I've been borrowing his XBox for the last couple of nights and damn... what a game. Started playing around 6 yesterday afternoon and I'm already on Level 21. Purchased and driven alot of different cars but so far my favorite is the Audi R8. It's definitely the most poised of all the cars I've driven and in spots where my 911 Turbo is twitchy the R8 is composed the whole way through.

Definitely a great game. I'm probably the only kid on the planet who doesn't own a video gaming console, but with the great deals on XBox this year I'm gonna ask for a 360 Pro for Christmas. Gotta get me a few racing games too; i'm not too much into Halo or all that other crap.

Well, I figured out how to solve my Forza3/Uncharted2 dilemma: I bought Uncharted 2, beat it, then traded it and Uncharted 1 for Forza. :lol:

Great game. I burned through three months of the season mode late last night, winning an 500 Abarth, Brera and GT500, and saved up enough to buy and tune a Mazdaspeed RX8 and an 09 CTS-V. Went to the storefront and bought a few cool pieces of vinyl, and am having a blast- great game.

I'm picking up Modern Warfare 2 today after classes (in about an hour), so Forza 3 will have to wait until Christmas.

I love me some cars, but Call of Duty takes precedent.

My 16 year old brother stood in line at 12 last night to get it for his PS3. I don't see what all the fuss is about... but I'm not a first person shooter type of person so I wouldn't to begin with. Must be a good game if people are standing in line for it though.

It's incredible. It blows EVERY OTHER FPS I have EVER played out of the water.

I was considering NOT getting it because of the hype, because I hate video game fanboys, but I figured I would take the plunge, and I must say, I am MORE than pleased.

I played the first one and loved it, but the sequel's inclusion of a level where you gun down civilians in an airport is reprehensible. I chose not to buy it even though I really wanted to play it as my way of voicing disapproval.

I think tony show knew he wasn't going to bankrupt the developers/publisher by not buying the game. Bit the saying goes, "put your money where your mouth is" or more recently speak with your wallet.

If nothing else those who choose to take that route will have the satisfaction of knowing that they didn't contribute their hard earned dollars to something they don't agree with.

Exactly. My $60 will never be missed by Activision, but purchasing a product is giving your endorsement of the entire package. I think it took incredibly poor taste to design and include that level, and the ability to skip it doesn't change the fact that they put it in there.

Staying true to your beliefs is important, even if you know that you're in the extreme minority on the subject.

Not my best work by far- I just got sick of looking at a bone stock car, so 5 minutes in the vinyl editor fixed that.

Tony that was your CTS-V?? My buddy and I were looking through pictures earlier and he stopped at yours and we were both drooling over it! I'm now on Level 25 or 26... should be finished within the next few days. :D

That is in fact me powersliding around a corner. My 3 year old picked out the blue/green chameleon paint job. :lol:

That was my next question; it sure didn't look like a stock paint color, though that would be pretty awesome to see one. Thunder Grey is probably the closest to a chameleon paint job that a CTS will ever see though.

The whole game just doubled in fun for me.

On a related note- have any of you guys gone to the ForzaMotorsport forums and looked at the vinyl designs people are coming up with? I can paint some stripes on there like a pro, but there's guys making photo-realistic images of Megan Fox using nothing but 800 layers of vinyl shapes. It's unbelievable.

i agree, the art people crate is INSANE! i had a hard enough time with koolaid man let alone an actual person...

Thats the awesome thing about Forza though, along with superb graphics, excellent physics and beautiful environments, we get this awesome livery editor that looks very elementary. Once you see what people do with it though youre blown away!

i hate to admit that my girlfriend is farther than me in this game...i spend alot of time in the design studio where she does nothing but RACE. unfortunately my art doesnt reflect the amount of labor i put into it haha...

They've been doing it for awhile from what I can gather. I guess it started out as just a ban from the Auction House, and now supposedly its escalated to a ban from Xbox LIVE.

Kudos to them really. I mean, I'm no stranger to the female anatomy (if you catch my drift ;)) but there ARE kids who play this game, and I don't think an older brother or a dad wants to have to explain what "those are" on the hood or roof of a car a kid happens to grab while messing around with someone else's account, etc.

i play on a 42" Panasonic 1080p plasma that i lucked out on bigtime. picked up a copy of Cars and a few other calibration DVD's and made this thing rival a theater screen.

paid 700 for it at the circuit city close out, what was even luckier was it was tax time and my money wasnt needed elsewhere.

Oh and to complete the package, my wonderful GF bought me a Pioneer surround sound system that matches the XBOX 360 for christmas last year.

Bliss...

(the awesomest part was i paid NOTHING for my xbox 360 20 gig. im an at&t sales rep and last year they had a promo called samsung rewards, every samsung i sold earned me points. i earned enough points for the xbox and an extra controller)
