I have read that someone from Debso said there is a code for the diagnostic screen but they're not coming off of it. So the lockpick is the only way. What year sts do you have? If it's a 08+ there are cheaper lockpicks on Ebay.

Spend the money and enjoy. If $300 is going to change your lifestyle, you're in the wrong car.

If there are no other options you don't really have a choice do you? Either pay for a lockpick or don't watch DVDs.

Those are your only choices.

Finding a code is not an option. And if there is only one way of doing something and only one piece of equipment that let's you do it, that piece is worth whatever the maker wants so your not paying more than something is worth.

Many many people think it's worth it.

I realize it's worth everytime I change my route without having to pull over and when I watch music videos at night.

You'll realize it too when someone in they're sts passes you watching a movie while your pulled over tryng to change your route.

It's all relative. To you a lockpic might be woth it. To me it's not. Nothing personal.
When I know there are codes that can be used to do the same thing.. I would just wait for the code.
It's possible. It is an option for CTS. So there must me one for 2005-10 STS.

So again I would like to say that its not personal. I appreciate Everyone on this forum and give
HUGE respect to every STS owner that deserves it. For we are a select group of people who
stand apart form the Benz,BMW that are all over the road (her ein Brooklyn)...

if there is a code don't you think it would be out by now?

this model has been out for too long for it to be hiding away somewhere

If someone at GM with contacts to Denso can't figure it out it's probably never going to be figure out. And if it ever is, when? 2 years? 5 years?

I also talked with two different companies that service Denso NAVs for local dealerships near me and they both said the same thing that if there is a code it will probably never be known. They said it has to do with whoever releases the code being liable to lawsuit. And that only A select few would even know the code.

I have entered every code on the Internet into our navs hidden diagnostic screen and none of them lead to anything that will unlock it while driving. However every other option can be found there. It seems obvious to me that with the STS if there is an unlock code they separated it from all of the other diagnostic features. This way there can be no reason for anyone to have it.

So you keep looking and if you find it great. You'll be very popular.

given the way the system works there may not be a code I would surmise that lockpicks work because it's a hardware not software issue.

snum, thanks for the details. sounds like it will be hard to get the code! (if it even exists).

It is software at some point. Even if all the signals are from hardware it takes software to read the signals and tell the NAV to lock.
