A couple of questions for our electronics gifted members:
An Internet item claims an iPhone plugged in for an extended period of time heated up and caused a fire. True?
If I leave my iPod plugged into the arm rest/storage receptacle all the time, is this a fire danger?
Does the receptacle also recharge the iPod/iPhone
Thanks,

I leave my iPod Touch plugged into the car all of the time. It stays plugged in for weeks at a time and I've never had an issue. The iPod does charge while plugged into the USB port, but as far as I can tell the USB port goes dead (power is stopped) shortly after the last car door is closed and the doors lock. When the car door is reopened you can hear the iPod’s hard drive spin up and see the iPod begin to charge again. When I touch the device it is never overheated so I doubt it will spark a fire.

Thank you for the information. One more question: Does the iPod song information appear in our radio window, so we can work the selection without having to touch the iPod? I do not have the Nav option.

thats probably an issue with the Iphone 3gs. I know at the beginning they had problems with it overheating. my 3g is always on and plugged in. no issues. you should be fine. If your worried just feel the back..it should be warm after som use. just not on fire :)

I have the Nav so I don't know if you can operate the iPod via touch screen with the standard radio. I'm pretty sure the song information does appear on the screen and you should be able to use the radio buttons whether on the radio or steering wheel to control the iPod. Perhaps another member who has the same setup as you can answer.
