Hey guys:
Went in today to talk to the shop owner about some questions I had with the transmission overhaul on my truck about 9 months ago. I asked him when the fluid should be changed, and he suggested 24-30 months. I asked him what type, Dextrom VI?? And he replied no, Dextron III.
I could swear I read on here somewhere that GM now mandates dectrom VI for tranny and still Dextron III for transfer case.
I explained this to him, and he said that he was "unaware" of that change, and that he thought it was only vehicles built after 2006 that called for Dextron VI. Sounded like a bull story to me, but before I really put my foot in my mouth, what is the "TRUTH"?
Is there an actual bulletin that I can print and present to him??

If it does in fact call for dextron VI, should I demand it get replaced with the right fluid or let it be??? Is there that much of a difference??

This was bothering me so much that I had to call caddy and see what was up. Seems as though they phased out Dextron III for automatic transmissions back in 2006. Since then, you should have been using Dextron VI
How could a transmission shop not know this?????
Anyone with the bulletin info, would be greatly appreciated....so I have written proof to show the shop owner. I am thinking I should have him drain the Dextron III and replace with Dextron VI..................Am I being too much over the top???

UPDATE:
I confirmed that the shop that did my tranny rebuild used Dextron III fluid. I questioned that choice this morning and suggested that they were to perhaps Dextron VI as many others on this forum have suggested. I even gave him the TSB number.
He looked in all his books and they all say dextron III
He even called the local GM dealer, and they told him dex III.
He then called a rep for GM who does teaching seminars. He also said dex III, but you could use Dex VI, but not mandatory.
He then called my local caddy dealer and the service manager also confirmed dex III.
We were told that the TSB is for 06 and later models???
Is this making sense???
According to the label on the GM Dex VI, it clearly states Dex VI takes the place of Dex III.
I am making a big deal about this or is there REALLY a concern in using DEx VI instead.
