View Full Version : temps fall, steering wheel fail

Temps are falling here in northern Illinois, and I gladly returned to using the steering wheel heater.

Just to have it fail after a week. First I noticed it shutting off after just a few minutes of warmth, then it evolved into requiring multiple button presses to activate. Now, it hasn't worked in three days. Even when it stayed on it never reached the same heat levels I recall from last winter.

All other steering wheel based functions operate as expected - radio controls, voice recoginition, mute...

Before a trip to the dealer, anyone know if a single fuse may be the culprit? I'll probably hit the dealer anyway as I approach the end of the original warranty and I have a couple other engine related items I want checked.

The level of heat in the heated steering wheel is determined by the ambient temperature. If the temps are only moderate to low it's almost nothing; at -50F it really puts out but tapers off as the wheel heats up.

but it should still come on, right? I don't even get a blink out of the light on the switch.

It must be all the Big Mac crumbs in it.

Doesn't sound like a fuse to me.

new guy on the block here at this forum. great forum by the way!! same problem on my 04 deville. no heat in wheel and no light on switch. is this wired to a separate fuse or included with other electrical? any idea the fuse number as the owners manual does not specify.
thanks much

crem8r,

Welcome to the forum. You'll get better feedback on your question over in the 04 Deville area.

Have fun!

ouch, hot hot hot !!!

Got me a new steering wheel. Took it in Monday morning, they determined a wheel was needed and ordered it, and I had my STS back Tuesday evening.

I also had the pleasure of a 2010 Radiant Silver V8 DTS as a free loaner. Quite an interesting A-B comparison in rides. I have a greater appreciation of the handling characteristics of my STS after pushing the DTS through a couple tight ramps. The DTS was quite enjoyable as a true luxury sedan, in fact I just left the radio on the classical station the dealer pre-selected. But I really like the agility of my STS.
