I googled and checked this site, but I still can't find the fuel filter. On my 04 Ave. it was on the driver side frame rail by the dr door. Any one??

Thanks in advance

Marc

After another search, it looks like they switch to be located int he tank. The guy at the parts store must not have heard me say EXT.
Good news is I don't have anything to change.

Thanks anyway

no, its not in the tank..... jack up the front driver side, its almost directly under where the pedals are. Glad I changed it on my EXT. I cut open the old one and there was all black gummy stuff in there. (should be in the same location as your avalanche)

Hey does anyone know if it matters what "brand" of fuel filter I get? ie. is it okay to get the oem equiv. from the autoparts store or is it a must to get it from caddy dealer?

The external fuel filter was deleted from production vehicles.
I belive it was done for the '04 model year.
If you had one it would be located just forward of the fuel tank in the fuel line under the driver's floorboard area inboard of the frame.

So on 04+ the fuel filter is in the fricken gas tank? How are we supposed to get that out? Anyone have any steps/tips on changing the fuel filter on an 04 ESV?

Like I said, I don't remember the specific year and I don't think they did them all at once.
I know it was around '04.

They just use a strainer in the tank I think.
I am not sure I have had anything newer out so I can't verify it.

You change the strainer with the pump, when it goes out you put a new one in.

This makes sense, because I looked under the truck from front to back while it was up on jack stands. I followed the lines from the engine to the tank. No Filter was found. My 04 Av had the 5.3 liter moter, so maybe that had something to do with why the filter was not moved to the tank.

Thanks

I went from Chevy to Cad in '04 so I had a lot on my mind.
I know it was around that timeframe, and who knows what kind of production break they used.
It was freaking all of us out.
