What are the symptoms of a faulty distributor pick up coil?

No spark. The coil's resistance should be between 500 and 1500 ohms

well i think thats why my car stutters on acceleration because no spark to the spark plugs i have a feeling thats what it is it runs like it's not getting spark

If the coil was bad it would not run at all. If its not throwing codes, then it sounds like a fuel injector issue. Youll have to check their resistance with a digital volt meter. They should be between 12 and 18 ohms each.

You have to check the coil to know for sure. You NEED a digital voltmeter. You can get one for around $20

A failed pickup will cause the engine not to run.
Checking a coil with an ohmmeter will rarely give you an indication as to whether or not it is really bad unless the car is already just not running.
Usually the issue is the magnet cracks on the shaft, this creates magnetic poles that are not supposed to be there and it can cause drivability issues.
If it has been forever, I would overhaul the distributor using Delco parts and replace the mainshaft which comes with a new magnet, and the pickup coil for sure.
Be sure you properly follow the timing procedure.
