View Full Version : Driver's door rattle? Texas_Lade 10-20-09, 01:39 PM I keep hearing a very small rattle in the driver's side front door when I go over big bumps and some dips. Sounds like the door is somewhat ajar but I close it hard and it is still doing the same thing.
I tried searching for a TSB or a fitment issue but found nothing. Has anyone experienced this or heard anything on it? Would like to get it fixed soon. Thanks!:) Try monkeying with the adjustable seatbelt anchor on the pillar. I had a similar noise that was resolved quickly that way. Texas_Lade 10-20-09, 05:08 PM Thanks for the reply but that did not work.
It sounds like the door is loose or the glass in the door is loose. A very small rattle noise over large bumps. mattroberts123 10-20-09, 06:47 PM DITTO:
I have the SAME issue on both my front doors.
Sounds like the frame that holds the window in place is loose or something. I am thinking it is from them having to replace the POS door handles so many times and something new is loose.
Want to take it to the dealer, but havent had the time so far.... but it is starting to get VERRRY annoying. JohnH4260 10-20-09, 10:05 PM Thanks for the reply but that did not work.

Sounds like warranty repair to me... why not let dealer figure it out. Sounds like warranty repair to me... why not let dealer figure it out.
I tend to agree about just turning things over to the dealer. But with phanteum rattles or creaks, I have found that the dealer will not usually spend the countless hours I will. I don't really blame them either. My dealer is great, but with rattles, I try to find them myself. :( Gigantor 10-21-09, 01:10 PM You guys gotta handle the door handles with
kid gloves, learned that with my GMC Yukon I had a similar issue. My rattle was coming from inside the "B" pillar. I had to take it back three times and on the 3rd attempt the service rep found that there was a TSB on the driver door latch. I think it has something to do with the design of the backside of the latch. After they replaced the latch it has been rattle free. JohnH4260 10-22-09, 05:28 PM i had a similar issue. tsb ??? mattroberts123 10-22-09, 05:44 PM TSB = Technical Service Bulletin
(i.e. a problem GM recognizes and recommends the dealer fix) tblountman 10-23-09, 10:20 PM I have the exact same thing on my driver's side door, drives me crazy. It is the latch which attaches to the frame. I took mine off fiddled with it and put it back together and it stopped for about a month and started up again. If someone has the tsb number I would love to get it or at least post up a copy of the work order where we can print it and take it to the dealer. If you grab the latch with both hands and yank on it up and down sometimes you can get it to make the little pop noise which echos in the car when you go over a bump or something which stresses the frame. I was wondering when someone else would say something because I knew I couldn't be the only one having this annoying sound. Did you ever find out if there was a TSB for this? Have you done anything about it? I took mine to the dealership and got it back in the same shape. tblountman 10-29-09, 08:54 PM I did not find any tsb on the above website. I have a service appt on Tuesday and we will see what happens. If they give me the old saying of cannot duplicate then I am going to buy a door latch and replace it myself. I will let you guys know on Tuesday. Texas_Lade 11-06-09, 11:15 PM Did you have any luck with it? I'm getting really annoyed! RightTurn 11-07-09, 08:50 PM Here are the 2007 Escalade TSBs. http://www.edmunds.com/maintenance/recalltsb.html?styleId=100672736&engCode=8VNAG6.2&transCode=AUTOMATIC&mileage=12%2C900&zip=77032&type=tsb&serviceType= Texas_Lade 11-08-09, 09:27 PM I could not find anything that pertains to what we are talking about in that list of TSB's but thank you for leaving the link. tblountman 11-10-09, 10:32 PM Waste of time at the dealership as usual. Could not duplicate issue. Told me they re-adjusted the door latch (which in turn made it worse than before). I ordered the latch and will replace it when it comes in. Supposed to be here in the next couple of days and will post the outcome. By the way the latch was $13. tblountman 11-16-09, 09:19 PM Update. Well I shamed the dealer into replacing the door latch for me and thank god I did. So the latch comes in and it looks a little different than the original but the asst. service mgr. tells me the company which supplied the original was no longer in business. The latch looked the same shape but did not have the little black ring aroung the catch area but they assured me no problem. They called me and said was ready to go and when I get in and shut the door and put it in gear to drive off it says driver door open in the info screen. Show the tech and he is speechless. They take it back in and do some adjusting and cannot get it to work, they come out and tell me they have no clue since they measured the diameter of the latch and it was exactly the same and shaped the same as well. My suggestion was to take one from another truck and they can figure it out later and it just so happens they have a buy back truck with 1,800 miles on it and do the swap and to my suprise, NO POPPING NOISE. I was right all along, this took care of it. Sorry for the long post but thought I would put all of the info up since it was a little strange. RightTurn 11-16-09, 09:37 PM Well, what a hassle...but at least you got the issue resolved. :highfive: Uebermensch 11-16-09, 11:09 PM Update. wow... Texas_Lade 11-17-09, 10:35 PM Holy moly...so you are saying I have to get them to replace the latch off of another truck (Escalade?) in order for this to be resolved? Thanks for the update! tblountman 11-17-09, 11:00 PM You can check with your dealership and see if they have any of the old latches in stock as there might be some of the original ones still floating around. I am not sure if he meant the original supplier was out of business or just not doing any work for gm anymore (probably one of the companies they owed money to when they went belly up). Good luck. Texas_Lade 11-17-09, 11:12 PM Have any idea what year the latch was manufactured in that you got? tblountman 11-18-09, 07:22 PM Sorry, I don't. All I know is the donor vehicle was a recent buy back with only 1800 miles which I would think it was an '09 or '10. Maybe it was just a freak deal with the one they ordered for me. If you look at the latch on your current truck you will see a black area which feels like it might be urethane or something and the one that came in was a solid silver. They measured both of them (with what I don't know) and said they were the same diameter. I know I am no help but at least you could see if your dealer has one in stock or have them order one (it was only $13) and see what comes in. Worth a shot. I know the little popping noise it was making was driving me crazy. If this hadn't have worked I was thinking of swapping the driver latch with another door and at least the noise wouldn't be right under my nose and I might not hear it as much. BDEVLIN 11-22-09, 11:14 PM I had the same problem and swore it was the window. But when getting my oil changed I asked the dealer to look into it and it was actually something in the dash. No more rattle... |
