well today sucks.

its been raining non-stop for several days and the roads are slick as ice. theres an intersection just a few miles from my house where you stop, go thru the intersection and merge into one lane from two and theres a gas station on the left right in the middle of the merge section. i look to my right for people merging and when i look ahead again- brake lights. dude in a ford escort was about to turn into the gas station and all i could do was lay on the horn and brake like hell. no one was hurt,(impact was at about 5 mph) but his bumper looks like corn flakes and my grille is cracked, liscence plate holder is ruined, and the plastic bumper trim fasteners broke. theres a small wrinkle on top of the bumper in the middle but its not really noticible. im certian that if the roads were dry i would have been able to stop in time. pictures comming soon. how hard is it to just replace the bumper?

sorry to hear. Really easy fix, about 10 bolts. But you'll want to take the bumper pistons from the donor car also.

That sucks, we've been having rain all week too and I almost wrecked the Brougham the other day. The bumper is fairly easy to replace. It's only eight bolts at the bumper shocks and two on the ends for the linkage. The '90's are kind of scarce in the junkyards, but you can use the center portion from an '80's car. If you didn't hurt the ends then that makes it much easier to find. The linkage bolts almost always snap in half when you go to take them out so be careful, but you're probably better off getting new ones. Soak them with wd40 or some kind of penetrating oil the night before you go to do the job.

Glad to hear you're OK. Minor surgery and your car will be back to her usual self in no time.

Glad ur okay and that it was not a terrible accident. Collisions always suck. Its been over a year since the night my '95 DeVille got pulverized by a drunk driver and I still have chest pains every now and then from where the seatbelt was. The quote in my sig is there for a reason. RIP

Sad about your Caddy getting crunched, but good to know there are no serious injuries. I don't know much about body work, but per above comments doesn't sound that bad. Here's wishing your Brougham a very fast & uneventful recovery!

ps--

If there's any surplus rain, we sure could use it here in So Cal. Enough to wash the envirocretins out to sea would be fantastic! :-)

Sorry to hear about that incident and I hope that will be the very last one you and your car involve

That's barely even noticeable! Should be an easy fix

Maybe a body shop can pull it out?

Your bumper struts must be frozen. All those soft filler panels were designed so they would just bent and then go back into place when the bumper was pulled out. Theoretically you could run into something, forward or backward, at up to 10 mph and not do any permanent damage to the car.

according to the manual, you can drill a hole in the bumper piston and it should pop out. never seen it happen before though.

When I got my '88 FWD Fleetwood the RF bumper was pushed in from the previous owner hitting something. I literally used an axe jammed between the frame and the bumper to pull it back out. It took about a minute, the shock just popped right out.
