Or did all non-supporting members message capacity drop to (5) total? I thought (10) was a little crazy but (5) is beyond anything I could have imagined:cookoo:. This might be placed in the wrong forum since this is cts-v general discussion so just move it on over if it is.

Yes. It's just you. :D

I have to pay a lot here to get what I get for free on other forums - and that despite the fact this forum has waaaaaay more advertisements on it. Restricting non-Supporting Members to just 5 PMs is pretty lame.

"A lot?" Seriously?

AAIIIC

When it's compared to free, yes, IMO it's "a lot". Trust me, I'm far from a tightwad, but I am a practical person who likes to see my money actually getting me something in return. Paying $50 a year to get fewer features than I get for free on other automotive forums seems like a lot to me.

Ok then. :D

Paying $50 a year to have them fvck up the CTS-V forum by dividing it into 3 sections has seriously turned me off for next year.

I have heard a claim of 30%(or close to that) fewer advertisements when you become a supporting member. I was a supporting member and vendor and never noticed a decrease in advertisements. Like I said before (10) messages is ridiculous but (5) is retarded. Who knows, maybe it's just a glitch with my account. I do think it's crazy that for $5 a month here you get to have (50) messages plus a claim of fewer advertisements and on the "other" site you get double the messages and no advertisements for... free. And you don't have to hear all the people saying "why don't you become a supporting member".

Right, but there aren't 500,000 V's out there to support your thrift unlike with other forums. It's a pretty small, focused community here that you seem get some continued value from. The smaller the community the higher the expectations from its members.

Pony up.

I don't really have any problems with the forum, but this is a CADILLAC forum, not a CTS-V forum. I have no idea how many cadillacs are out there, but I bet more than 500k!

If you browse through the other parts of this Cadillac forum you will find that there are VERY few supporting members outside the 4 V forums.

Totally agree and admit I hadn't considered this forum beyond the V community. That said, unlike the vette, LSx, 5.0 (choose your grouping), 50/60/70's muscle, resto, euro performance groups that are actually active out here on the internets (say as opposed to the Cadi DTS crowd), it's the V crowd that drives this site and it's a small crowd. And, as a constituent that has received a ton of information from this forum that has saved me a lot of $ and potential headache... I choose to contribute a little more than the occasional lurk, install, opinion or spamish post... in fact, to support your postings as it turns out.

It is definitely not the V crowd that drives this site. It is the advertisements/vendors that drive this site. With close to 100,000 members I seriously doubt the V owners account for even 15,000 of that. If there was no cts-v this site would still be here and it would still be making a lot of money. The supporting member fee is just icing on the cake. You can support them as much as you like, its your money. I am simply saying that the message limit, even for the supporting members is on the low side.

I've seen my account lapse. There is no question the advertisements are far greater for the great unwashed.

And there may be 100,000 members on this forum. Maybe a 1/20th of those post with ANY sort of frequency...

What these guys will never understand is that those "other automotive forums" are owned by corporations, who have no problem feeding money into the forum when needed. Sal cannot do that.

And what they also don't want to admit (but I am sure they are well aware) is how much better this forum is, how much more entertaining it is, and how much more freedom we have.

Look how many members frequent this place that do not own cadillacs, then look how many non-owners frequent other automotive sites.

You are right, they are owned by corporations. If you think that those corporations would keep any automotive forum on hand if it's not making money then you are insane. They are in it for the money. If this site isn't making good money then something is wrong.

As for how many members frequent cadillacforums that don't own cadillacs vs. how many non-owners frequent other automotive sites... There is no way you can actually know that this site has more non-owners than any other site out there. The majority of non-owners on here are mostly prospective owners and if they don't become an owner I seriously doubt they will be hanging around for very long.

I have been a member of these forums longer than most and I can tell you that when someone around here sells their caddy they are usually never to be heard from again. It is very rare that the person will continue to hang around.

you need to re-asses your awareness.

Non-supporters can store 10 messages. Over all the years, I've only received two or three complaints - including this one. Is there a reason you need to store more?

That is what I was asking. I can only store a total of (5) messages not (10). That's why I asked if it was just me or if everyone's capacity dropped.

did you check your Sent folder? If you received 5 messages, chances are you sent 5 messages. Maybe that is where the other 5 are.

You also have the option of downloading messages before you delete them.

I already checked that. It says I have 3 messages stored, of a total 5 allowed(1 in my sent folder, 2 in my inbox). I am really not even worried about it anymore since I don't get many messages.

I didn't know you could download them. Good to know. Thanks.

Id rather take the less amt of features than pay to become a supporting member..jmo
Although this site is soooooo slow for me, if I became a supporting member and had to deal with less crap would it speed up for me? I almost dread coming here its so slow.
