We have the 3M Clear Bra paint protector on three vehicles (2002, and two 2008's). The 2002 vehicle front end looks as new as the day we bought it 7 years ago. Am purchasing a new 2009 ESV Platinum and will definitely have the 3M product applied. buckeyefan007 10-17-09, 07:12 PM What sis the cost of this? To do the front bumper and hood, as well as the back of the rear view mirrors... about $500 per vehicle. I do a lot of highway driving but there are not many cars where we live so I have no chips on my trucks, but I see a lot of customers that live or drive in areas with a lot of sand like the Jersey shore, and all their cars/trucks have a lot of chips. If you are worried about that a film like 3M or Llumar sells will help against that greghills 10-18-09, 12:23 PM I started seeing chips in my '08 EXT around 6,000 miles. next stop at the dealer, I asked about it, and was told it's my highway driving that caused it , nothing they can do, not covered.
This is ridiculous, I drove an STS for a year in the same place and the same way - no chipping, before that an H2 and before that an Avalanche - all the same, no chipping.
Seems to me this is a paint quality issue. I started seeing chips in my '08 EXT around 6,000 miles. next stop at the dealer, I asked about it, and was told it's my highway driving that caused it , nothing they can do, not covered.

The Escalade's and most trucks have a lot of surface area for debris to hit and there will be more stone chips, I get more Navigator customers asking me about this than with GM trucks. My cousin has an Avalanche and drives I95 everyday, he has had the front end painted twice already. westons 10-20-09, 02:13 AM Yes it has a few chips in it, but I figure its probably normal as alot of them ive seen look the same. jiggyy00 10-20-09, 02:44 PM hey hcvone quick question? i wanna paint my front end also because of the chips , how did your cousins front end come out? and what did he pay for it? i drive on the high way alot so bugs and other debri kill my car JohnH4260 10-20-09, 10:09 PM hey hcvone quick question? i wanna paint my front end also because of the chips , how did your cousins front end come out? and what did he pay for it? i drive on the high way alot so bugs and other debri kill my car
After repaint, might want to try 3M Clear Bra (or Venture Shield) to protect front end. Have had 3M product on my 2002 vehicle since new and front end still looks new after 7 years and interstate travel between OR, WA, TX and NM. jiggyy00 10-21-09, 02:00 PM how much do they go for john? can you tell that its on? About $500 for front bumper, hood and back of rear view mirrors. $700 if you add rear bumper and area immediately behind back wheels.
Yes, you can see finish line where plastic film meets paint. But in NM where we have lots of sand and blowing wind, definitely worth it. 3M makes one product (Clear Bra), and Venture Shield is another brand. On a different note, Clear-Plex is a clear film used to protect windshield from rock chips. It doesn't last as long as front end film though, maybe 12-18 months before needing to be replaced. greghills 10-23-09, 11:40 AM The Escalade's and most trucks have a lot of surface area for debris to hit and there will be more stone chips, I get more Navigator customers asking me about this than with GM trucks. Oh, I agree with the size of the front end ... but I'm not seeing the chips there, which is what makes it frustrating to me. I'm seeing chips up on the hood just above the chrome - which is failrly normal - but also above that on the flatter part of the hood.
Prior to the EXT, I had an Avalanche, and H2 & the STS - driving the same areas and had no where near the amount of chips in the paint.
And by chips, I mean all the way down to the primer coat.
Might be me, but you would think for $70k they could manager to use a harder paint or provide the clear protective mask form no more $$$ hey hcvone quick question? i wanna paint my front end also because of the chips , how did your cousins front end come out? and what did he pay for it? i drive on the high way alot so bugs and other debri kill my car
He paid $500.00 cash and it came out looking very good, I thought the color was off at first but after a few months it looked like a perfect factory match Caliber 10-28-09, 11:05 AM can you have the dealer do this or do you have to do it yourself... I don't wanna screw this up adding this big sticker lol. | |
