I have a '91 brougham d'elegance that I recently got from my parents. While they had it, my brother drove it to Chicago and when he brought it back to them, the security system light flashes when the doors are unlocked and stays on when they are locked. It's not on when the car is started. He says it started because one of his friends was driving it and unlocked the door without using the switch. Also, it doesn't lock and unlock when the car is put in drive and park anymore. Does anybody have any idea what's going on and if there's an easy way to fix it without taking it to somebody to do? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The light is supposed to flash like that and stay on until you close the door. Then it's supposed to go out. Does it stay on like that all the time even when the door is closed? If it does maybe one of your door switches is broken. ALso I think on mine it doesn't lock when you take it out of park if you have the door open.

It doesn't stay on when the car is started, but as long as it's turned off, it's on, whether the doors are open or not. It says in the owners manual that if the light comes on, just unlock the door with the key, but I tried that on both the passenger side and the drivers side, and it doesn't do any good. And the doors don't lock or unlock when going from park to drive or vice versa whether the doors are open or not, so I get the feeling that the problem is directly related to the locks, but the switch still locks and unlocks them.
