View Full Version : OnStar upgrade SFX Group 10-16-09, 08:50 PM Hi, there is 2003 truck with OnStar, however if memory serves doesnt the truck hardware need upgrading before it will work/
Build sheet says "DETERMINE IF ONSTAR CAN BE UPGRADED AT GM GLOBALCONNECT-SEE TSB 05-08-46-006 " oldworld 10-16-09, 09:36 PM It does need to be upgraded from analog to digital.
As of today, I believe its a $15 upgrade fee from any GM dealer, BUT you must sign up for one year of Onstar service at the same time

Sounds good, how much is a year OnStar, also there are many "parts" to that subscription i bet?
What is OnStars website address to check prices? SFX Group 10-17-09, 09:28 AM Found it (www.onstar.com), says $15 upgrade only with $199 years subscription... Thanks for the help :)
However as i will be Canada its $289 per year (Safe and Sound service). oldworld 10-17-09, 10:17 AM Do most people on here have onstar??? Did they continue their service??? slopoke 10-17-09, 10:31 AM i did not continue on my truck. oldworld 10-17-09, 11:53 AM $200/year may be high. However two summers ago while at our condo in upstate NY (Boonies) July 4th weekend, my son locked the keys in the truck.
We called AAA and the warranty company which comes with Roadside service, and they both told us that because it was a holiday weekend, and because of where we were, they could not get to us until the following day.
One call to onstar, and it was unlocked in 15 seconds. Should have sone that first. I also had a problem one time with the vehecle theft system and truck would not start....blinking yellow light on dash. Called onstar, they did a diagnostic, reset something so I could get it started, and made it home with no problem. Dealer fixed that issue.
So....................Onstar................$200
Peace of mind..............................Priceless
ESPECIALLY IF MY WIFE AND KIDS ARE DRIVING WITHOUT ME nathanjax 10-17-09, 11:59 AM ESPECIALLY IF MY WIFE AND KIDS ARE DRIVING WITHOUT ME
That's the key right there. I don't mind sitting in a parking lot for a little bit or where ever (not that I'd WANT to), but to have my wife and daughter somewhere like that... This would be the only reason i would use it, however in Canada its $289 for that service. That said i need to check what the 2003 would have, as i know the engine stop i dont think works on it (2007+ only according to there site), but its CAN $289 for insurance to get in the truck and get it home, which itself cant be too bad.... oldworld 10-17-09, 03:31 PM Also, which I forgot to mention is they give you from ONSTAR a phone number to your truck. When you sign up or renew, they always have a plan for minutes. Not cheap, but I got the lowest priced minute package and I believe they gave me a extra 100 min free. They do not expire.
Good: If you are in an area where there is no cell service, you can call to or from the truck via onstar. Thats another good reason to have it in my opinion. SFX Group 10-17-09, 03:48 PM Handy to know :) | |
