I am a new Catera owner and am experiencing some trouble with my 97 Catera shifting gears.

First off, the car is in great shape, new tires in January, new electrical/gaskets in June and has had an oil change 1000km ago. Recently the check engine light has come on, I plan to have it serviced but was hoping someone here could help me understand what the problem is before I walk in to the shop.

When the car is first started she runs fine for 5 - 10 minutes, once she is warm I start to experience lag and shudder when trying to accelerate, After 10 minutes it grows worse not letting me reach speeds over 120kph and takes a significant amount of time to accelerate from a stop, say 10 - 15 seconds to get to 40kph. When this happens I notice that the car does not like to sit between 80kph and 100kph. The car seems to idle around 500rpm is this high?

On some occasions when it has run for log periods of time the ABS light will come on, and others it will also activate traction control.

I am no mechanic but I don't believe the problem is with the transmission as the gearbox produces no shake.
It sounds to me that the car is gasping for air or that the fuel isn't being distributed properly.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Chris

Have it scanned/diagnosed and reply to me what the codes are. It could be a number of things fuel related, egr, spark etc. And we'll go from there.
