http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/10/new_cad_logo2.jpgAs with its model line, Cadillac has performed surgery on its logo. The previous logo, at right, was a sleek bit of matte color and metal unveiled in 1999 as a result of Cadillac wanting a new icon to represent its "art & science" campaign. The aim was "to combine suggestions of high technology and elegance (http://www.cadillacfaq.com/faq/answers/caddylogoredesign.html) through faceted shapes-inspired by the stealth fighter and by gemstones." Sure.

The new logo cranks up the texture effect on the wreath, adds texture inside the crest, and plays up the embossing and light effects of the crest edge. It's new, but it's got a shiny bit of retro about it that we don't mind.

Cadillac doesn't appear to have said anything about it, and while it appears on the 60-day Guarantee site we can't tell if it's made it onto Caddy's official plot of the interwebs. The real test, though, will be how it looks when it makes it onto the cars. Thanks for the tip, Scott!

The 2010 SRX has this new emblem I noticed.

I like the new logo much better than its' forerunner. The just, hopefully replaced, logo looked thin and lacking in substance. The textures and colors, plus the increased contrast that the deeper, more distinct etching and textures provide adds to the feel of quality that the new logo conveys.

It's already on the SRX and CTS.

I saw the new logo on a new SRX, and the colors looked a bit off to me IMO. The red and yellow looked a little bit faded IMO, like the crest on an old Cadillac that's been faded by the sun.

I wish they would put the crown back on the crest and make the wreath look more like a wreath. IMO the extremely intricate and very large emblems on my 1991 Brougham are what really make it stand out.

I know carmakers are more partial to circular logos for a number of reasons, but I really liked the Caddy crest cradled in a 'V'. Not only is it a nice retro touch, but I think it matches the sharp look of the modern logos.

I also liked the crown on top of the crest :)
