Thanks z06bigbird 10-12-09, 11:52 AM Yes. If you plan on keeping the car for another year or more, I would recommend a GM dealer. The dealer will use the high end paint, as opposed to local body shops who might use "kmart" paint. Many body shops swap out the bumpers with places who specialize in re-doing bumpers. Several hundred bucks. Then you must primer it, paint it, clear coat it, etc. Total cost can be anywhere from $500 to $800. Some craftsmen can take that crease out of bumper with a high-heat 'hair dryer.' If paint is not damaged, you might leave well-enough alone. hazcaddy 10-13-09, 10:38 AM When I went to pick up my new '03 DHS it looked like someone had closed a garage door on it with a nail sticking out: a vertical scratch deep into the rear bumper.. The dealership had a paint guru who made it all disappear, working just around that area. Then I got the corner of the front bumper scaped while I was at church, again took it to the dealer's body shop (not a "no name" bodyshop, as bigbird warns) and $150 later it was as good as new. Scrapes gone, scratches gone. On a black car any imperfection would have stood out and this was a perfect job - they took off the bumper and resprayed the whole thing. Definitely not a DIY project for the average Caddy driver. Some shops would charge $500 to do that...................A dozen doughnuts would be under my arm the next time I visited............... z06bigbird 10-13-09, 01:43 PM If you have a dealer that removed the bumper and repainted it and reinstalled it..............all for $150......................make sure you keep those boys happy. Before you put those donuts under your arm, try a little deoderant. Not too much now, so it doesn't get on the donuts. z06bigbird 10-13-09, 01:51 PM If you have a dealer that removed the bumper and repainted it and reinstalled it..............all for $150......................make sure you keep those boys happy. Some shops would charge $500 to do that...................A dozen doughnuts would be under my arm the next time I visited............... I would venture to say that body guy did not remove bumper. There are guys out there who can airbrush the problem so that you cannot notice it. A local large Ford dealer has a body guy on "standby." Instead of pulling their regular body guys to address customers who come back with a blemish (after body work), they keep this guy around who is an independent contractor. I think he charges a garage or ins co just a few $$. He repaired a 2 inch dent (hail damage along a body crease) where the paint completely fell off my CTS. Most shops would have charged about $1500. He charged me $50, and I could not tell the diff. Buyer of my car knew that that damage was previously there, and he could not tell where it was, etc. I need to see him next week, since I just backed into a 3 foot pole. Paint is flaking off plus another little defect elsewhere on vehicle. Hopefully, $50 will do it. We all need to locate guys like this at various body shops. eyekandyboats.inc 10-16-09, 09:12 PM actually i just got home from my body shop who re did my bumper i got backed into and it cracked it and created a large crease. i pulled in and he toldme 100 bucks! i droped it off, next day picked it up ( today) gave him 100 cash and you cant even tell that it was ever broken AT all!. BTW he is a LOCAL guy. however he re paint all the local cop cars and takes all the paint repair from most of our chev and ford dealers around the area. raysteen 10-16-09, 11:01 PM Just got mine back from the dealer yesterday for the rear bumper replacement. It did need to be painted and clear coated....itemized on the bill with seperate prices. Total bill was over $1800 to the insurance company....but I had to pay $500 since the 'hitter' was driving an uninsured car. The impact bar had to be replaced also. I was stopped on a hill waiting for the light to change when hit and bet she was doing at least 20 mph when she hit me. No other damage (besides my seat belt impact to my sholder and chest). | |
