We have been having some issues with our 2007 ESV lately. It's not under warranty any more, so I want to try and fix it myself if I can.

It started with the cruise control not setting, and then when it would set it would kick off. I figured out that if I tapped the breaks before I set it, it would set.

Now, when I am driving the parking brake light will come on and I get a SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM message and the traction control light stays on.

I have reasearched this thread and a few things point to the brake activation switch, but can't find anything concrete.

Please help! Thanks.

Correction: The message is SERVICE STABILITY SYSTEM.

Thanks.

Nope, it is Service Brake System. Comes on and off regularly.

Anyone?

How many miles on your brakes? Look to see that the brake master cylinder res tank has enough brake fluid in it, some times when the brakes are almost worn down the fluid level gets low and you get this type warning, I would next get the brake pads checked to make sure you do not have one that is worn out and the other are ok

Figured it might be a GM issue, and not only related to Cadillac. I searched a few other forums (TBSS, GMC Sierra, etc...) and found a common theme that these messages can come up when the brake fluid is low (as mentioned above). Checked my fluid, and sure enough it was below minimum. I filled it back up to max and haven't had any messages or warnings.

Next step, getting the pads checked.

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully this will help others if they have any of the same issues.

How many sets of brake pads have you been thru, if you tell me the original pads are still on there, I would get the brakes checked ASAP. :)

I bought it pre-owned from a Cadillac dealership. I don't know if they are the orginals, but I highly doubt it.

The barke fluid fixed the issue, but I made an appointment with brake stop just to be sure.
