View Full Version : Best oil Mobil 1 High mileage for 93 deville 4.9 with 102,000 miles Hi everyne sorry to bother you guys again I just wanted to know if i should switch oil to Mobil 1 High mileage I know mobil 1 is the best and wanna put the best oil in my car so do you think I should put mobil 1 I would pay the extra money to go with the best I want my car to last me a long time it only has 102,000 miles on it thanks everyone. Dave S Texas 10-09-09, 11:17 AM M1 is a very good oil. Just follow manufacturers recommendation. More important is the oil filter. I use only Purolator or Wix, never any other brand, and change it at 3k miles. Using a syn oil: you can go longer than when using dino-oil, but the filter still changes at 3k. drewsdeville 10-09-09, 12:20 PM I don't use mobil 1, but I was told by a frequent user that mobil 1 filters are spec'd to last as long as the synthetic mobil 1 oil interval. Might be something to look into for less hassle.
I believe most regular oil filters are good for up to 7500 miles now... This has been beaten to death so many times. There is no "best" oil. One is as good as the next. No oil will cause an early failure. "Best" is in your mind and the manufacturers marketing. They know that people are passionate about their cars and spend a lot of money trying to convince us that their oil is the "best" for our babies. Use the cheapest oil you can find or the most expensive and your engine life will be the same. Your engine does not need synthetic. If you feel better about using it, then by all means do so. ALL oils today are semi synthetic. Ok Ranger Im gonna put in Rotella 15W40 ive heard it's really good oil and works well and is good for the 4.9 and the distributor gear because it's thicker and has more anti-wear additives i have this at work i work at sears and it's only 3.99 a quart not that expensive so im going to use that instead. ok ranger thanks another question car stumbles while accelerating i changed the tps and my mechanic did't adjust it rite could that make the car stumble and also the car goes ito like automatic cruise control when i jus give it a little gas could that be from the tps not being adjusted properly? I saw that thread. I'm not sure. Is it really okay to use rotella in the 4.9 ranger it's not too thick rite ive heard stories about it maybe being to thick maybe idk i just wanna help the distributor to help keep it lubricated and take a little off the load. It's perfectly fine. It was recommended by our old Guru, a GM powertrain engineer. Can't get a better recommendation than that. ok thanks ranger sorry for being a pain i just read something on another website and it said about being to thick of an oil with pressure i can make the oil filter burst off and all this crap but if a powertain engineer said it's great then i believe it like you said can't get any better then that. it said about being to thick of an oil with pressure i can make the oil filter burst off
:histeric:
Where do they come up with this crap? Aron9000 10-10-09, 10:36 PM Since when is 103k high mileage????? On caddyinfo.com it talk about the rotella good and the bad like oh it can make the motor wear out quicker and about the oil filter blowing off ranger so that's the website that talk about that crap ranger. Really? I stop by there regularly. Must have missed it. I'll go have a look. They generally have pretty accurate info over there. ok check it out and let me know what you think but should i use the rotella ranger. I was there and didn't see anything about it. Go ahead and use Rotella 15W40. Perfectly safe. chrisalcorn 10-11-09, 12:42 AM The TPS absolutely needs to be adjusted. This is a two man job. The parameters are displayed by accessing the right buttons and getting the value to display on the Fuel Data center. The two screws that hold the TPS to the throttle need to be loosened so it can rotated while watching the Fuel Data display. This need to be ZERO or very close to ZERO. cadillac_al 10-11-09, 08:29 AM I run Rotella 15-40 in mine most of the time. I left it in all winter last year and I noticed the engine turned over noticeably slower when it was below 0 degrees. I plan to use something a little thinner for this winter, maybe Rotella 5w-40. If my temps never got below10 degrees I would probably stick with the 15-40. I ran Mobil 10-30 for years in my plow truck. Last year I ran some conventional oil and that turned over noticeably slower when the temps were below 0 degrees. Sometimes that slow turning is the difference between starting and not starting at -20 degrees. drewsdeville 10-11-09, 11:58 AM I was going to add a similar comment to cadillac al's.
back when I was new to the 4.X, I used 15w-40 on recommendations from this site. Bad idea. In the cold WI winters, I got slow turning over and even a few seconds of cold start knocking, depending on the temp. You don't have to be a powertrain engineer to realize that something isn't right at that point. I took it out and have been running the 10W-30 the engine was spec'd for with no problems.
There really is no reason to put anything in the car besides what is spec'd for. I've been running 10W-30 Castrol GTX is all of my 4.X since I've owned them. The two I have now are at 170k miles and I've noticed no repercussions...
Just like the antifreeze thread, do whatever floats your boat. Just make sure you follow a good maintenance schedule. quins90lac 10-17-09, 12:57 AM Since when is 103k high mileage?????
that's what im wondering i thought the 4.X engines didn't hit high mileage tile like 150,000 or 200,000 |
