Hi,

I am not sure where to post this, but I will try here.

My dad has a 2006 SRX which he wants to trade. It has been trouble from day one and has been in for repeated repairs for the same problem.

He likes the Chev Equinox and he went to the dealer to order one (he is ordering because they have limited stock and most of them either have things he don't want or are missing things he does want).

The dealer gave him a quote on his trade in plus the price of the new Equinox. When he went back yesterday to give them the deposit though, they said that the trade in value of his SRX may be less when the ordered Equinox comes in. They said it depends on the market at that time.

So now he does not know what to do. Maybe when the Equinox comes in they will offer him a great deal less for his SRX knowing they have his deposit. I really didn't think it would work this way, I thought they would both fill out a purchase agreement and stick to the numbers in that.

Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed?

He should try to sell the SRX on his own while the Equinox is on order. He should assume that the trade value of the SRX will be lower then the Equinox comes in due to additional mileage, time, previously unnoticed "damage", etc.
