Well, it's getting to be that time of year again. Anyone here have any recommendations for a decent set of winter tires?

If you can get Nokian Hakkapeliitta's, theyre the best winter tire Ive ever driven on. I found them much grippier on ice then either of the Bridgestone or Michelin competitors. Blizzaks and X-Ice are good tires as well. The new Pirelli winter tires IVe heard are nice, but havent had a chance to try them.

All of this could be useless as I wasnt driving in a 550 hp rwd car, just a 250 hp rwd CTS...

Multiple threads on this. Pirelli sottozeros are the ones tested by GM for our car. They work quite well by report.

Just for giggles I looked up the Nokian Hakkapeliita R studless tires. They only come in our stock front tire size, not our rear size. Too bad, they have a great reputation.

I bought "Blizzak: LM-25" from Tirerack.

I went to the pirelli site and found sizes for the sottozeros.

What size tires did you run in sottozero on stock rims. I know the front rims are 9" and rears are 9.5".

I did not see a 285/40/19. Did you run something thinner that fit?

Click here for the sizes we are buying from the Tire Rack (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Pirelli&tireModel=Winter+240+Sottozero&frontTire=54VR9240SZXLV2&rearTire=835VR9240SZXL&vehicleSearch=true&fromCompare1=yes)

285/35/19 is the rear stock size and that's what they've got.

Thanks,

I knew the rears were 285/35/19 were the rears I just wasn't thinking clearly.

Cheers
