My speedometer reading is 0 mph about 95% of the time. This greatly reduces acceleration in 3rd & 4th gears, since input from the VSS is one factor in fuel metering. How do I resolve the sensor - wiring harness conflict? Wouldn't a bad vehicle speed sensor read 0 mph all of the time?

Well, I went to Piechowski Automotive for help, who sent me to J&S Speedometer at Ellis & Venice in Los Angeles. After explaining that I had gotten function for approx. 20 minutes by cleaning the connector to the VSS, the owner/mechanic "Jason" insisted, rudely & dismissively, without visually inspecting the wiring, that it could not possibly be the wiring. He & his laborer replaced the VSS & wasted 3 hours getting nowhere, until they finally inspected the wires. The "actual" repair took less than 30 mintues, but I was charged $245 for their incompetence! John Piechowski, who had been recommended very highly to me, could only say "I'm sorry" :tisk: :tisk:

What was the actual problem?
