I own a 1968 Cadillac Calais with a turbo 400 transmission. I just recently took the engine down to bare block and rebuilt it, while the the engine was out I dropped the transmission and replaced the filter while it was out. Once everything went back in, the car drove fine for about a couple weeks, now the car doesnt want to go forward (only backwards) and the transmission fluid smells burnt. I was told my transmission is going out, so i dropped the pan and there were little metal shavings in the pan. I would like to take the transmission apart and kit it, but i have no idea where to start after I remove the transmission. I've searched for free/downloadable turbo 400 breakdowns with no luck. any suggestions/tips? I want to save money instead of taking it to a transmission mechanic but I will not start it without a technical manual. can anyone help me out? I've heard that they are not-so-easy to kit on your own, spend the money and send it to a mechanic. HELP!
