The recomended way to compress the pistons on an ABS car is to clamp the hose off and open the bleeder first. This is to keep crummy old fluid out of the accumulator of the ABS. I put them in all day without doing this, and so do the guys I work with. The possibility of a problem like yours does exist though, but it is not common. You may find you have to bleed out the accumulator and then the wheels to flush it out. I'm assuming the light is not on in the dash and you haven't tripped the proportioning valve.
