Hi
I have a '95 SLS and The solenoid(I think that is what it is) in the picture 6831 is making a clicking, actuates and di-actuates while the motor is running. It is located under the Cruise control servo(picture 6832). Could anyone tell me what this is and why it may be clicking?

Thanks Ed

No one know's what this is? Is it just because of the picture? I can try to take another to make it a little clearer.
Thanks Ed

Someone with a '95 will chime in.......but take a picture showing a bit more area - that first two still make it hard to locate the solenoid/valve/mechanism.

Is there vacuum connected to that piece, or just an electrical connector ?

The engine is a 4.6L Northstar, right ?

Definitely back off and show us a little more real estate.

Hey guys
Here are a couple of pictures further back. It is in the circle. It clicks for the first 5 minutes the car is running then seems to quiet.

Thanks Ed

Cruise control module? Is there a cable on it that runs to the throttle?

I think if you look in the first pictures it is below the cruise control module?

I give up. Can't recall anything like that on my '97 and certainly nothing like that on my '03.

Has something to do with the throttle. Look like you can adjust the idle control speed with a wrench. Could it be idle control module/motor?
Ok I know, its an idle control valve.

I was just gonna ask "What's that tit sticking out toward the throttlebody casting...................?"

OH, now I See it. That is the ISC (Idle Speed Control) motor.

Thanks gentlemen.
Any idea why it would click or tick? Is it supposed to while the car is warming up?

Thanks for the info.

I'm guessing it is failing. Does it ratchet when shut down. That is a symptom.

Hey Ranger
I'll have to check when I get home.
What does this do? I assume it controls the idle speed? And when it fails what happens?

Thanks Again

Yes, it controls the idle speed by pressing slightly on the throttle linkage when it gets the commands from the PCM. If it fails, the idle gets erratic or you have no idle at all.

Thanks Ranger
Should I expect to see a code now, or will that only show up after a failure?

Hard to say. Might or might not see a P030.

It control/adjust the engine idle speed/RPM. The adjust by opening the valve/flap of the throttle body to let more/less air in. When it fails usually the engine will stall at idle. But if you heard clicking then its working. When you heard the click does it move? The arm that stick out to push the valve/flap when you hear the click?

Hey Ranger and 94
Thanks again for the info.
I am not going to be back home until tomorrow, but I will check to see if the flap is movinig. So 94 is the motor supposed to make that clickiing noise? Is that normal?

Thanks again
