We've had the CTS a few weeks now and I am still debating about the percentage of tint to put on the windows.

Usually I go with whatever is the darkest legal tint. For me personally, anything darker presents a safety hazard, especially at night.

Another factor to consider is this is the lightest color car we have owned in a while and I am concerned on what the darkest legal (35% ?) would look like on the car.

I am considering going lighter than what I normally would.

Show me your cars with tint and tell me the percentage of tint if you can.

15% all the way around. You can usually go as dark as 20% and be ok. Most states will let you slide as long as they can see your silhouette. It also depends ALOT on the color of your interior. If you have black or grey interior, your tints will appear to be alot darker, especially with black interior. I have a shale interior so my tint actually appears lighter. My Dad has black interior with 20% tints and it looks like he has 10% because of the black interior. My tint looks pretty dark in the pics but you can still see my silhouette when the sun hits it right.

I've seen your color CTS with tinted windows. It will look sexy, trust me. My brother has 33% on his Thunder Grey CTS. It looks really good. I'd go under 35% if possible... maybe 25%.

Thanks Bob. Your STS is a wonderful example.
I hope to get an appointment next week to get the tint done.
I am still leaning towards going a little lighter than the darkest legal.
I will see once I get to the shop and perhaps see an example on the car itself.

I will be going with some sort of "carbon" tint. Apparently the "metalized" *may* interfere with some sort of radio reception. :hmm:

Hey all, I've got a 2000 STS Sterling Silver with black interior. I'm in VA which is very particular about tints. I've checked the local limits and am wondering if anyone knows a good place in the MD/VA/DC area to get the work done. Thanks in advance.

Best thing I ever did to this car was tint the windows. 22% tint all the way around.

All, not to thread jack here, but SPreston, where did you get that grill for your 2000 STS? That really sharpens up the front end. I have the color matched grill but would like to find an alternate like yours to clean it up a little. Also, I know with the black on black leather interior that even a moderately dark tint will look like a black out, does anyone have any pics of a silver/mirror tinted STS?
