Folks,
I have a 2004 SRX - 6cyl/2wd/ ~66,000 miles. I recently had the timing chain/gears replaced by the dealer because it was stretched. I just got the car back from the dealer a few days ago and took it for a long drive yesterday. Seems there is now a new problem. When driving the car and accelerating very slowly, right at 38 mph and 1900 rpm, the entire car starts vibrating. However if you accelerate normally, the car climbs without problems. It also does not seem to happen at 1900 rpm at any other speed if held constant. No OBDII codes are thrown.
Could it be valve damage from the stretched timing chain? Electrical? Transmission? I am heading back to the dealer tomorrow morning, but any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.

maybe the torque converter engaging/disengaging?

sounds like what I just went through. Torque converter replaced fixed the problem, sorry!
I had the same problem develop on my 06 V6 RWD at about 40K-something. The dealer could not duplicate the problem and I returned the car like that at the end of the lease.

Yes I had it , 2004 6 cyl consistently at 1600 to 1900 rpm in 4th & 5th while gently going up a slight hill . I read a tsb describing the symptoms with the cure being replace the converter assembly. Anyway 6 months ago 50,000 miles I took the car in for service without mentioning it because I decided to put up with it as long as possible before getting a rebuild. Dealer called back said recommend replace all trans fluids. After that
service the trans has worked faultlessly at any throttle, its perfect, So I got lucky just this one time. I'll let you know.....

How much did you pay for Timing Chain replacement? My 05 AWD (out of warranty) is waiting for part order to have the Dealer do that job, they estimate $1995 but GM will take care of it less $500 deductible

Folks,
So I got my car back from the dealer. Torque converter and transmission mount needed to be replaced. Seems to be shifting much better through all gears now, however my gas mileage has gone down. I was getting ~ 20mpg on the highway and now I get ~ 18? They also reprogramed the TCU/ECU. With regards to the timing chain being replaced, I feel pretty lucky - all this work was covered under warranty - so I don't know the real cost - just the pain and suffering - dealer had the car for over a month with all these issues.
Thanks for all the input - I was able to bring the TSB (document ID #1852440 2004 Cadillac CTS - TCC Drone Surge Shudder ) to the dealer and that helped them circle in on the problem right away.

Add me to the list. The TC is being replaced at 42k in our 2005 V6 RWD. The GMPP just paid for itself. Glad it it goes to 72k/2012.
Cost us $200.

Can you send me a copy of that TSB?
