I just started to experience this issue. I have 92 and over the past few days it started to either idle high or the throttle is getting stuck. When the car first starts and run, the idle RPM's seem Ok. After a short while, I can start off and depress the gas, let my foot off, and the car can run upwards of 25 MPH with no pressure on the gas pedal. When braking, the car stops and at a full stop the RPM's are still @ 12,000.

I've even cruised down the road at 50 MPH and noticed it wanted to maintain speed. I could then shift into nuetral and watch the RPM's stay steady at 30,00 or so. I have not checked my manual yet and just wanted to throw this out for comment.

12,000 RPM jeez thats high!!! seriously I think the TPS is out out adjustment. Clean the primary throttle bore (smaller throttle butterfly of the two) Then restart and once it idles smooth again, check the TPS setting thru on board diagnostics. and report back

Keep in mind that this car needs to re learn the idle speed if the battery's been dead or disconnected. Its done by starting the car and letting it idle in gear (climate system off ) for at least 14 to 15 min. Then without shutting it off, push the AUTO button and set it to 70 degrees and again, let it idle in gear for another 14 to 15 min. If its still high, Check the TPS adjustment

Thanks CARNUT. The battery has not been disconnected (was a little week from the grandson flipping on the lights) so I will probably clean the TPS as suggested. Anything in particular I should be aware of? Cleaning wise that is?

DONT clean the TPS, clean the primary throttle bore with BRAKLEEN, carb cleaner etc. Use an old tooth brush and manually hold open the throttle. When you restart, it will run terrible but it will clear up.

Hey Carnut: I have a question. If the Priority Start turns off the battery does the car have to "relearn" the idle speed? You may recall you helped me with the dirty throttle body. Thanks for your experience,

Well, I read the priority start info and it says it disconnects the battery draw, if present. So, yes, I would think the relearn would be necc. Bear in mind this is to help keep batteries up on " garage queens " I've never owned a garage queen, all my hot rods, Corvettes, Allantes, muscle cars were my primary driver when owned. Allantes benefit by constant use. I've had less electrical trouble with my hi mileage 91 than my 50,000 mile 88.

I 100% agree, I own a "Garage Queen" and battery drain has always been my biggest problem! :yup:

Priorty Start is a must if you don't drive it a lot, but in addition, it's much better to actually find out exactually where your battery drain is coming from and just fix it!
