hi all, i posted this in the Deville section but hopefully the more who see it might have ideas. my 2001 Deville DHS wont start or crank. i went out one morning, drove it to get coffee and when i got back it it would not start, nothing, no crank, however the power seemed to be working for the lights and instrument gauges. the gps, power door locks and windows would not work. i tried everything from jumping it to switching batteries and checking all the fuses but still same problem. i then towed it to an auto electric shop, he tried checking all the fuses, relays, grounds, wires and a bunch of other things. he says everything has power even the stuff that doesnt work. he also got the car started by 'bypassing' the ignition but the fuel injectors cut off. he seems to think that if the main problem was the theft system the other stuff like locks and gps would work, so its something else. i really dont want to have to tow it to a dealer because i dont have the money. if anyone has any ideas i would be grateful.:helpless:

There could be clues lurking in your onboard diagnostic system. Here is how to display any possible trouble codes:

Also try a different key if you have one.

Are you getting a message when you try to start it?

I think that's a transponder key. Doubt if anything happened to the key while you were getting coffee. No super electromagnets in Starbucks?

If everything is getting power you might have lost a ground. Check the grounds for those groups of circuits.

Rodents in the area? Squirrels might have eaten a wire.

no data is what comes up when i try to pull the codes from the cars system, when hooked up to a outside comp same thing, no data. Ive tried my valet key which is all i have and same thing. the shop i took it too is checking all the grounds for me, he told me he is looking for a common denominator where the gps/radio/door locks/windows are all involved and also the ignition.

are there any grounds that anyone know of that might be causing this?
