| View Full Version : 4.9 How long will it last? mike93 09-05-09, 10:24 PM how long should my 93 caddy deville 4.9 last it's got 101,000 miles on it and i really keep up with all maintenance including coolant with tablets and i just got the trans rebuilt last week. V-Eight 09-05-09, 10:33 PM 200k+ if you're lucky mike93 09-05-09, 10:40 PM why do you say if im lucky? gdwriter 09-05-09, 10:45 PM Have a '91 DeVille that I bought four years ago with 200,000 miles on it. Now has 257,000 and the 4.9 continues to run strong. mike93 09-05-09, 10:50 PM wow did you have your trans rebuilt yet i got mine rebuilt last week and now she runs great i wanna restore her with new paint and a new top. it's white with a blue top and blue interior interior is immaculate. Rodya234 09-05-09, 11:41 PM With regular care........they're invincible. You'll make 300k easy, but you'll most likely have to replace the trans at least one more time. mike93 09-05-09, 11:44 PM okay good im gonna get the aamco lifetime trans warranty with regular maintenance do you think the motor will last or will i have to rebuild the motor too? Rodya234 09-06-09, 12:06 AM I don't think I've ever seen a 4.9 that had to be rebuilt. The most mileage I've ever seen was a '91 Seville with 360k, that was still running strong. mike93 09-06-09, 12:12 AM wow okay cool i guess i bought a great car even though the trans went out at 101,000 miles but it runs great now that i got it rebuilt at a good aamco that a place is better buisness buerau i hope it will last me 300,000 and more. V-Eight 09-06-09, 12:22 AM why do you say if im lucky? Some crap out early, but for the most part they'll last a LONG time mike93 09-06-09, 12:30 AM ok i hope mine lasts a long time mine doesn't leak or anything she run's great. gdwriter 09-06-09, 02:08 AM I had my transmission rebuilt at 216,000 miles. As far as I know, the engine hasn't been touched. Certainly nothing more than a tuneup and regular oil changes since I've owned the car. mike93 09-06-09, 02:29 AM Oh ok what's the mileage on the car now? gdwriter 09-06-09, 04:08 AM It's at 257,000 now. I haven't driven it much since I bought my '01 Seville in February, but I'm hanging onto it to give to my niece in January. mike93 09-06-09, 01:17 PM Wow ok i hope mine makes it to 300k or longer i wanna restore it give it a new paint job and put a new vinyl top on it and just restore it and keep it for a long time i love my caddy. revdowrong 09-15-09, 02:31 AM I've got 284,310 miles on my 91 deville with the only problem being that I need a new ABS pump. I keep up with her as much as possible. Tune up twice out of the year and coolant changes being one in the summer and one in the winter. I've been through two trans. rebuilds one being at 136,000 miles and the other at 274,000. mitw44 09-25-09, 12:35 PM My 94 Sedan Deville with the 4.9 has 291,000 miles. the engine is still incredibly strong running, and has great power. Very smooth and quiet. I do need to change out the struts and shocks, as they are shot. I just became the owner this year, and it has been maintained, but it could be a much nicer car, if all the maintenance had been kept up better. For instance, the leather seats are ripped on the drivers side, and the leather is dried out. I also had to have the drivers side seat frame fixed. When I bought the car, the drivers seat was propped up with a 5 gallon bucket between it and the edge of the backseat.:D | |
