So I have a coolant issue with my catera on the rear passenger side of the car and I can't locate exactly where it is coming from in the stickied section I read that it is common that it is either a valve or a coolant plate that is a pain in the ass to fix. Well I need to fix it so I can sell this thing I hate it. Is there anyway to test and see which one it is before I start replacing parts for no reason.

Here is what it does: On cold start up it will leak coolant and then it will stop until it gets warm and starts leaking again. Which leads me to think it is the valve since it is off and on, but it is leaking quite a bit of water. I see that there is what looks like burnt coolant on the side by where the plate is as well. Anyone who can help it would be greatly appreciated.:confused

okay so I think I might of found it I hope! the water is coming from the passenger side of the intake manifold where the rubber hose connects I see a steady stream of Coolant (which is now only water) dripping down. It is still difficult I hope it is just as easy as replacing this hose and some clamps though.

Okay it is a some sort of valve maybe the heater control valve it is between the motor and the firewall behind the intake manifold and it is still a pain in the A$$ to get out. Catera For Sale

You can also bypass the valve by getting a 5" copper or other tube to fit in the hoses (5/8 inch OD - not sure - I matched it up in the store). I hooked the one from by the reservoir to the one from the right side. The other one gets plugged with a wine cork (and clamp).

I got the part for $30 from RM europeon it's the same part that they put in a Saab:hmm:. I still haven't put it in and I accidentally pulled the vacuum hose all the way off and can't see where it goes so if someone has a pic or diagram of where it goes this would be very hlpful. THank you everyone for your help.
