The most common use for Seafoam and the other "top-end cleaners" (including the GM relabeled stuff) is cleaning out the intake manifold and combustion chambers by drawing half the bottle through the brake booster vacuum hose, letting it set for a while, and then blowing out the fumes with several power revs. I've found that it is also pretty effective at cleaning out the lower end, which you can do by dumping the other half of the bottle in the oil fill, driving the car for 50-75 miles to get it through all the rockers and everything, and then immediately change the oil. MrDobin 09-02-09, 04:51 PM Ya I keep reading tales of neighbors calling 911 over the temporary smoke lol. I think I will just do half gas half booster. Rather not mess with another oil change for now. 87allante4.9swap 09-02-09, 05:40 PM I used it. I checked the injectors after and they were cleaner. I ended up taking them off and cleaning them. What problems are you having? MrDobin 09-02-09, 08:33 PM Smoothness of drive(engine not literal) and gas mileage. I put it in earlier for good measure. Its got my gas up to 17 mpg city now. Plus quieted the idle. carnut 09-03-09, 06:00 PM This engine is a throttle body injection system. 2 injectors that spray down thru a throttle body. As the fuel sprays, it cleans the throttle blades. Point being that this system is virtually self cleaning unlike new multi port systems that spray directly into the cylinder and can form carbon and oil deposits in the intake manifold. Have owned 2 Eldos of this era and have never seen the need to clean injectors. Money would be better spent on a new fuel filter and verifying the fuel pressure is between 9 and 12 lb. From personal experience, I would reccomend replacing the sock filter within the fuel tank attached to the fuel level sender. After all, its 25 years old and will plug up over time. I've had this filter plug up and cause fuel pump failure. | |
