View Full Version : Hesitation at low speeds ShadowLvr400 07-27-04, 02:01 PM Parking speeds especially. If I try and be very gentle on the throttle coming out of spots, etc, the car seems to hesitate, like the motor's wanting to stall. If I give it harder stabs, it seems happier. My throttle cable loose perhaps? Or an LT1 issue? (96 Fleetwood) RBraczyk 07-27-04, 02:24 PM Funny we have this same problem, lol. I haven't been able to figure it out either. i have a 94 fwb...and i have a similar issue...between maybe like 0-10 mph, if i dont hit the gas, it seems to "studder" RBraczyk 07-27-04, 04:23 PM Exactly
I dunno what it is. ShadowLvr400 07-28-04, 12:27 PM The things that come to mind for me are, A) Dirty/lazy fuel injectors, B) Minor timing adjustment needed, C) Idle that needs to be tweaked some, D) The torque converter closing up too tightly, offering more resistance than the motor's able to fight well. Ie, like not slipping a clutch in gently enough. RBraczyk 07-28-04, 04:38 PM I can tell you that its not the torque converter cause mine was replaced and i still have the problem. My timing has been adjusted three times to no avail. Idle is controlled by vacuum, so im going to run through all my vacuum lines this week and next week. one thing that i have that i dunno if you guys have, when i do brake stands, the motor nearly stalls, and i get a very strong sulfer smell. can it possibly be a rich issue. 02 sensor has been replaced. Idle air screw replaced. Throttle position sensor replaced. One more thing to note, The inside of my air cleaner is washed with gas, and my air filter is moist with gas. Smell is very strong several feet away from the open air cleaner. Stoneage_Caddy 07-28-04, 08:27 PM Rb isnt going to have alot on common with the fleets , being a TBI 350 . in rb's case i think you should really take the air cleaner off and observe the TBI in action to see why (where) it is sparying fuel horizontally . Something is very wrong if your soaking the airfilter with gasoline RBraczyk 08-02-04, 10:52 PM Well its not soaked, It feels damp. Interesting thing today. Sitting in my driveway. Motor still hot. Idling in park around 600. Max rpm 4000. I revved it fast to 3000. Came back down slowly to 600, smooth sailing. Then i revved it slowly, Five seconds, to 2500, let off, motor dropped to 0 rpm for 2 seconds, then came back to 1000 then to 600. I did that same thing again but when it got to the bottom i tapped the gas and it came back up. Wierd huh? Is anyone else experiencing similar sydromes? well my problem has been solved. I cleaned my throttle body, and plate area as best as i could with a throttle bosy spray and a towel. Now at low speeds i dont get that studdering effect, and in reverse i used to always get the hesitation, now its completely gone.
try it out, and tell me if it helps also :yup: bryan1970 03-03-05, 09:00 AM sounds like either dirty TB or old fuel injector to me. how many miles are on your cars? if the O2 sensor has not been replaced that could also be a problem. when they get old they don't switch back and forth as fast as they once did and can casue a false reading to the computer. | |
