I've had my distributor out a few times, (and the engine too) and I just use an end wrench, but thought about buying a cheapie end wrench and heating and bending it to work better. I have distributor wrenches, but the way they are bent wont fit in there like on other engines.
No quick solution here.

During the 11yrs I've had my DeVille, I've had few occasions when I needed to loosen the distributor hold-down bolt. Each was a time-consuming nightmare PITA occasion. Last Winter when I changed engines and had to deal with the distributor again I decided I'm too old to fool with this without the proper tool. I considered bending an old wrench, but started calling around town to see what was available. All were overpriced, so I searched online. Ended up buying a 13mm/15mm distributor wrench from Summit Racing for way less than buying one locally even paying the USPS charge for mailing. It was a smart-spend for me. No more PITA time-consuming job! And using the correct tool makes it a one-hand job when setting the Initial Timing. Of course I'll prolly never have to use it again, but..........

Thanks for that Dave. I'll get one of those too.
Bricks; the wrench has both sizes on it, 13 and 15 MM. Just get on Summit's sit and search distributor wrenches, and it will come up. You can make things easier for five bucks:)

When someone posts here, they are internet capable. I posted the sizes, the place to buy and the price. Then we have to tell them how to do a basic search? Amazing. Bill you'd better hurry buying. I don't believe they have a large number for sale.

My 1986 4.1 HT4100 has a 15mm hold down bolt you will need a 90 degree angle wrench I picked a nice one for around $10. its the only easy way to do it.
Do a search for distributor wrench. Once you get one it's easy.

If you take the airbox off for the air filter you can reach right in and use an open/closed end wrench. There are only 3-4 bolts you have to remove to remove the air filter box. No special wrench required at all. With the airbox removed you also have much more room to remove/replace distributor.
:thepan: only showing code 30 so ima mess around with the tps a little might just replace it with a new one this time.
