: Standard tranny temp vs. hauling temp?

Only about 3 weeks in on an '05 Escalade luxury and have been noticing that the standard temp for the tranny seems to be roughly 200 if I'm reading the gauge right (only 1/4 from red) after driving only about 20 miles. Granted, it's hot 'round here right now (90's). Is this normal temp? I ask because I just hauled my boat around the block for the first time, and after only about 4 miles the tranny temp was at the same level !

I did notice that the gauge is 100 - 200 using a lot greater of a gauge area then 200-max (300).

So - should I be concerned that if I haul my boat on a 200 mile trip that the tranny is going to overheat? With an external tranny cooler as a standard feature, I never thought this would be a problem in an Escalade....

I have yet to tow my boat with my escalade, but I've towed my tent trailer a couple times this summer, and temperature does go up on the tranny, depending on hill grade to climb and right foot input! Normal temp is at around 180, just a tad under 200 towing in easy does it mode, and I've hit 225 going up a killer hill WOT in 2nd gear. Tent trailer is about 3000 lbs.

The answer per the owners manual is:

200 is normal.

200-225 is normal for hauling

250 is pushing it.

I guess that's why they write these books eh? As a typical man, I didn't read it...

My 05 6.0 is half gauge empty warmed up fully.I mean driving for 30 or more.

I also pull a 10k lb boat/trailer..it gets 3/4 gauge after 30 minutes or so.It's flat here in Florida but hot as heck and I can run about 60-65mph.

Just for giggles here is what I tow with it....not for the timid.lol.

Holy crap!! I tow a 30hp compact New Holland tractor with mine and the tranny runs a hair shy of the 200 mark. Looks like your boat is missing the outdrive?
