I'm in the market for a used Escalade and the 2002-2003's seem to best fit my price range. I know the 2002 vs. 2000 models had a big overhaul, but are there any significant differences in the 2002 and 2003 models? I'm sure there are at least minor improvements year to year, but any major option or performance changes I should know about for these years? Thanks for any info.

The 02 has a din and a half stereo. 03 is double din. The center console and the spot where the cd changer is looks different as well. Steering wheel...

I think, the 02 has rear reclining seats.

I would go with the 03. I had to get an 02 cuz finding an earlier model with the shortwheelbase with center full seat was impossible. The 03 is a lot more similar to the other 2nd gen models, plus you get more features and the bugs (???) have been improved on (knock sensors issue for example). Get the newest model you can afford budgetwise. Knowing what I know now (thanxs to this forum), I would go with 04-05 and swap out the captain chairs for a full seat!

The climate control is also different on the 03 than the 02.

Thanks for all the replies guys. RL- thanks for so many details. There were many more differences than I anticipated. I'll definitely be looking for an 03 as long as it's in my price range. I'd really like a black exterior but it seems that it's higher demand? In the many listings I've seen the white exterior 03s seem to be listed lower than the sable blacks. Also, to the poster that mentioned the 2nd row full seats versus bucket seats, I would actually prefer 2nd row bucket. Is there a reason you think the full 2nd row is better or is that just personal preference?

It's just a personnal preference. I got 3 kids and it would have been war to pick who would have to sit alone in the back while the other 2 got the ''nicer'' seats! Now they all sit together. Leaving the rear seats flipped up gives more room for groceries and stuff.

Have 2 kids and one on the way. About to do the conversion from captains chairs to a bench in the middle- thanx to the forum.
