I've got a friend who is well established in the shoforums. He just picked up an '06 STS-V and wanted to join but only has free email accounts. I was wondering if using me as a connection, that a mod or admin could waive the email rule??

.........along the same vein, I have a locally administered third-party e-mail provider that is currently having financial problems, and may go under. I have a .....@verizon.net address also. Does that address qualify as a valid CF e-mail ID because it's free and a part of my Verizon DSL service ?

Good question! I recently gotrid of my Netzero service along its' Email account. I now have Fios high speed and the Fios email is my only service other than my Hotmail account. So is the Fios email adr OK for CF purposes?

I believe any ISP email address will work, be it fios, verizon, comcast, or any other, because they can be tracked back to the user if they're running a spam attack. It's the free hotmail, yahoo and gmail accounts spammers use that aren't allowed.

If you or someone you know has a problem registering, just PM a SuperMod or Admin. People can be accepted on a "case by case" basis if we know them or someone here vouches for them.

I was asking for jedhead, but he was able to register so that's nice...

I have been a member of many forums, and even a moderator. This forum has more security than I have ever seen. To sign up I had to use my old, and free to get, aol account. I had to remember an old password from 1994. Now I am set up and I went to switch it to my gmail and I was blocked. If someone does set up an account that fits your criteria, why can they not change the address to what ever they use. My gmail is my name@gmal.com. I have it updated on my desktop and cell phone constantly. Now I have to keep AOL open, and update the page every once in a while, to see if anyone responds to my thread. Something needs to be done about this.

I also do not have a "well known ISP" email address, but I need to update my profile email address in any case. My internet at home is provided by my employer, so they do not configure the ISP email addresses. However I pay for my own hosting and have custom a domain name. I guess I'll PM The Tony Show?

You can use the CONTACT link at the bottom of any forum page to contact me in regards to email. We DO make exceptions for members who we're familiar with. At this very point in time (and it's not the first time), our server is struggling with emails that bounce back and forth because people used "free" email accounts to sign up that they never check (inbox is full bounce back) or they simply never logged into again (account closed bounce back). We have almost 100,000 members and these bounce backs are happening constantly all day long - slowing down page-loading - and that's bad for everybody...

Can there not be a probationary period for which a certain number of days or months can pass, then you can switch your correspondence email to a "free" account? I had to use my employer's email account when I signed up and cannot switch over to my free account. The advantage of the "free" account is that I'll have my Gmail account for life whereas I may leave my employer, change my ISP etc - bounces occur from these separations as well.

When I first tried registering back in 06 or 07, my Yahoo email was not accepted. As an alternative, I gave my other email address... I don't bother with this email address anymore, because my primary email is through Yahoo.

In response to the "Notice" popping up upon log-in, I checked my AOL email account, only to find 14 new emails--all junk mail.

So am I okay? I registered with my comcast.net email(which I had forgotten and had to call tech support to get the email and password). I have been well established with hotmail since 1999, and I have never felt the need to change my email address(total PITA if I ever did change it). Right now my account here is registered to my comcast email, which I never check and do not know the password/address to.

I got that weird bounce back message a couple of days ago, and I just want to make sure my account will not be affected.

What Sal is saying, is that if your email address on file here is never checked by you, eventually, that inbox will get full, and will no longer accept new messages. If that happens, any emails sent from cadillacforums to you will get bounced back. At that point, your account here will get suspended.

In order for members here to avoid problems with their account, if you DO NOT check the email address you used to register here, go into the edit options screen in your USER CP, and make sure to uncheck the boxes I have highlighted below:

This will ensure you will never receive an email from cadillacforums, and then you won't have to worry about your email address at all.

I'm guessing the Liger just poasted anywhere to try to make a point?

Yes, I see that, Jim. I'm shaking in my boots. He apparently lives in Georgia (not all that far) and I'm so frightened that him and his mafia will show up at my door and hook me up to a new pair of cement shoes. Ya know, since we're at war and all.. In any event, I forwarded whatever information I have on him (ip address, threats, etc) to my attorney for future reference.

In regards to email addresses... If you're a member here in good standing, you can change your email to that of a free account (yahoo, aol, gmail, etcetera). Just make sure it's not going to eventually start bouncing. If you don't want email, follow the instructions that Jimmy mentioned up above. It's that easy...

How do you define "good standing"? :)
