I finally picked up a nice newish set of the upper and lower chrome grill off of ebay today. Now i haven't fully blacked out my V as alot of you know - my current dilemma is do i want to black out the entire grills or leave the edges chrome and black out just the grating... - also if i should go with a satin black color or the oem raven black...decisions decisions

you could also leave the mesh chrome and black out the surrounding trim....

Leave the border shiny. Search the "Post pics of your V" thread in V1 General Discussion and you'll see how good it looks.

^ thats the route i will probally do. I already did a ps of it....

I think i'll probally go with the oem raven black and than do the surround housing around the fog lights at the same time. It will def help tone down all that blaring chrome. It looks good on silver and lighter colors but on black its a little much for my taste.

Im going to be next, I would raven black everything if I were you. Only thing I would leave chrome is the cadi emblem. I got some fenders of ebay and got those painted black already. I have the trim brite but did not have time to try it out yet. I'm trying to get the parts so I can put it back to stock if I don't like it.

I would powder coat ALL of the chrome matte black if I were you, it gives the two blacks some contrast.

Hello,
Check out this 09 CTS-V that was blacked out. I don't know if I have a shot of the back of the car as it was also blacked out. But this might give you some ideas....

Dr Design that is one sweet ride. Thanks for the pic.

Although I may have chose different shoes, but the size is perfect and car's ride height is too. How did the owner lower this ride?

I absolutley love the grill work. Is that raven black/gloss black powder coat finish?

Is there an OEM black out replacement kit or is this bodyshop work?

Those look pretty similar to the 22's that have been posted recently

On this car we lowered it with the coilover system. We are still trying to work out some bugs, thus the reason this kit has been released to the public yet. But we have full adjustability with this coilover system and have various spring rates as well. Obviously this customer will not be hitting the track with these shoes, but if you put the stockers back on it will handle REALLY well.

As for the grill work. That was done by the bodyshop. Just mask, primer, and paint. It is a matching gloss black paint finish. It really changes the look of the vehicle when you see it coming down the street.

Thanks,

^ thanks for the pic - it def would need a satin finish- the oem color is way too glossy on the grill- still looks a bit blingy

08-25-09, 03:58 PM
Oh man.. to each his own but that just destroys the look of the car and its lines. You always want to keep "a touch of class" and blacking it out so much just removes the appeal (at least for me). As long as the owner loves it, I guess thats all that matters.

thebigjimsho
08-25-09, 04:36 PM
Man, and I'm worried about adding headers and destroying the class of the V2...

aceofblitz
08-25-09, 04:47 PM
LOL that full black V2 looked like it got dipped in paint and left to dry.
If you want to black out a car either remove the badges or keep them in their original color. and why dont you guys try out "black chrome" on the chrome side of things? wouldn't hurt.
ugh those blacked out rims and blacked out tail lights make it look like a CTS-V Mule.
bigjimsho go for the headers man, youre destroying nothing but stuff that GM weren't allowed to add because of legal issues.

That is pure crazy talk! I understand that if you said that you are replacing your Lincoln with the V2. But if you are replacing your V1 with a V2...DO IT!

I thought i'd never say it, but that blacked out V2 a few posts up is OVERKILL. I love the blacked out look, believe me....but I think it killed the look of the car

Razorecko
08-25-09, 06:41 PM
Thats why I was saying I wanted to retain some chrome is certain areas. Such as how i just blacked out the upper portion of the chrome window trim. A fully blacked out V like that loses its luxury appeal and just almost looks like a black'ed out honda accord with a body kit.

The blacked out badges and tinted headlights is what made it "too much" for me.

For the new V, I don't know. Maybe headers with a mostly stock catback? I wouldn't want it to be super aggressive, tis all...I love the idea of the fastest sedan on earth(nevermind the crazy egg, uber-expensive Panacrapper) killing you softly...

YES. That is PERFECT other than the oversized shoes. There's juuuust enough silver to be tasteful, but that is a perfect example of blackness done right.

If it had the stock wheels on it, that car would probably be the best looking V2 I've ever seen.

I can understand powder coating the wreath and the outer chrome rim (What I would do)..but come on, if you're not gonna take it off, don't black out the actual emblem.

The all black car is not good. he should of at least left the headlights and taillights alone.

I would like to see a silver car with the blacked out grille and/or balck chrome highlights and wheels or maybe gunmetal wheels.

...got the grills - now the dilemma. Do we do oem raven black or a satin black ?.....with the oem raven you'll see the flat black radiator /cooler more than you would with the satin grill.

Then they would match your wheels and if it doesnt work just go gloss black so it stands out more....and if the car is dirty you will have satin black
