Not going out after dark and staying clear of windows while indoors are also favorite pasttimes in the Motor City. Rodya234 08-21-09, 12:13 AM 1.Go to places like the United Artists Theater. Ypsi is next to Ann Arbor, home of the University of Michigan, and there are lots of great places and events in A2 (google Ann Arbor events or Ann Arbor concerts). There will be a big crowd in A2 on Saturday, 9/12, for the Michigan-Notre Dame football game that starts @ 3:30. Avoid driving the freeways around A2 and the major surface streets on the south side of town before and after the game. If you like German food, there is a great place called Metzger's on the west side of A2, at the Zeeb Road exit off I-94. If you're headed west on I-94, take the exit and go straight through the light into a small shopping plaza to find the restaurant. Metzger's also has excellent perch and offers entertainment some evenings. http://www.metzgers.net/ If you are into folk music, The Ark is world famous. http://www.a2ark.org/ The Ark is located in downtown A2 where there are lots of restaurants. fierodough 08-21-09, 09:53 AM I live about 1/2 hour northwest of Ypsi. Thanks for the advice! i will look those up! :) Everyone is telling me Detroit is bad-ass? Is this true? Is it worse then any other major city? I've been to NYC, T.O., Vancouver and I am from Ottawa (that last one don't count for anything.. lol) and never felt uncomfortable or threatened. Will the Escalade have to stay home on this trip? hueterm 08-21-09, 10:07 AM Yes Yes Worse than most of NYC and there's nothing even resembling it in Canada. Um, probably -- if you want to keep it... fierodough 08-21-09, 10:36 AM Is Detroit one big getho? What happened!!! I wanted to go see where the Fieros where made. but that plant has been demolished I think. :( (Pontiac MI) Florian 08-21-09, 10:36 AM Go ogle the co-eds at Central Mich. Univ. Go to MGM GRand casino in Downtown. Go to Greektown..... F dirt_cheap_fleetwood 08-21-09, 07:26 PM Detroit is a dump beyond belief right now. I would stay as far away from the city as possible. Take a look at this, armed guards to protect groceries. You read that right, groceries. http://money.cnn.com/2009/08/06/news/economy/detroit_food/index.htm?section=money_topstories c5 rv 08-21-09, 09:51 PM You'll probably be OK in the downtown area (Comerica Park, Greektown) during the day. I worked in downtown Detroit for a couple years and didn't have any problems. On the walk from the parking structure to the office, I learned to avoid the obvious drug deals going down across from the federal courthouse. Then there were these lucky guys today: http://www.freep.com/article/20090821/NEWS01/90821076/1319/Hollywood-film-crew-in-Detroit-robbed-at-gunpoint Rolex 08-22-09, 08:55 AM 90% of the posts are telling you to duck and cover. The other 10% are suggesting you will probably be okay in certain areas as long as there's daylight overhead. Sounds like fun. :holycrap: c5 rv 08-22-09, 01:41 PM It's difficult to accurately assess the crime level in Detroit. Local media tend to play up the dramatic stories while the police have chronically underreported violent crimes. Sinister Angel 08-22-09, 04:50 PM Go ogle the co-eds at Central Mich. Univ.
