View Full Version : Cadillac needs to stop discontinuing model names... Lord Cadillac 08-20-09, 02:07 PM Personally, I'd rather see Cadillac keep the STS than bring on a new model in the ATS. The new CTS is going to be larger to align itself with the BMW 5-Series.. So why not just BADGE the CTS as the STS? Then take this new ATS we're hearing about, and BADGE it as the CTS. So we KEEP our entry-level sedan, we KEEP our mid-size sedan and badge the XTS as the DTS...
I'm not crazy about the way Cadillac drops the old names, brings on new ones, and then drops them as well.. We're losing DTS and STS now. Why? Is it really necessary? V-Eight 08-20-09, 04:42 PM I agree, although that would make things more confusing down the road - think Fleetwood and Fleetwood Brougham confusion. cooncat 08-20-09, 05:15 PM Sal, I agree with you in concept, except that the CTS will never be the STS unless Cadillac does some serious upgrading and makes it more luxourious. There is a huge difference between the two models. I have driven many CTS in the time I have had my STS. The CTS is very nice, but not the STS.
I would love it if they could go back to he era of names, Sedan/Coupe De Ville, Seville, Fleetwood, etc. Lord Cadillac 08-20-09, 05:25 PM I'm not sure what confusion you're speaking of, V-Eight. I may have missed your point.. What I'm saying is... Cadillac is building a new car to replace the current CTS. It's bigger than the CTS and will have more features.. Why not just call it STS instead? Cadillac is also working on a new entry-level vehicle.. Instead of calling it an ATS, why not just call it a CTS? Cadillac is ALSO working on a new vehicle named the XTS... Why not just call it the DTS?
Hey, Cooncat.. I agree. I like the old names as well.. But I do understand that times change and we simply have to roll with the punches... Beverly Stayart 08-20-09, 05:34 PM I think there is more goodwill and name recognition in the existing names. V-Eight 08-20-09, 05:56 PM I'm not sure what confusion you're speaking of, V-Eight. Oh, I didn't realize it was an entirely new car for the CTS/STS. I was saying it may create some model confusion if we saw a car the looked the same with both CTS and STS badges. thebigjimsho 08-20-09, 06:23 PM Eh, don't care... Aron9000 08-22-09, 04:35 AM I agree, although that would make things more confusing down the road - think Fleetwood and Fleetwood Brougham confusion.
God I hate that nonsense. Especially trying to find parts in a junkyard. You tell them that you have a Cadillac Brougham, they say they have a Fleetwood, you ask if its an old RWD boat, they say its FWD, but that's what your car is isn't it? Cadillac should have never used the Fleetwood name on its FWD models IMO. Fleetwood was always Cadillac's biggest and grandest sedan.
Getting back on topic, why doesn't Cadillac simply refer to the next gen CTS being smaller and a BMW 3 series fighter. Then they can say they have an all new STS in the works to compete against the 5 series/E class. No need to change the letters, unless Cadillac plans to sell the current gen CTS alongside the new, smaller ATS. Exactly. I agree.. Instead of the "new" ATS, call it the CTS - everybody already knows the CTS as the entry-level Cadillac. Bring on the new CTS that they've been working on - it's bigger - and call it STS instead of discontinuing the name... Then take the upcoming STS/DTS replacement (which is much more a DTS replacement than an STS replacement) and call it DTS.. This is not rocket science! When the Gen III CTS architecture is ready for the new Flagship body, call it Fleetwood and have a Brougham edition... thebigjimsho 09-05-09, 04:40 PM The only people who seem to care are the ones who have driven Cadillacs for years. Most of the newer buyers couldn't care less about model names. There is little history to many of these names and they don't have long-standing cache. We're not talking Mercedes S class or the BMW 3 or 5 series. And since Cadillac has had their rebirth over the last few years, most buyers are new anyway... | |
