ALL,
After gathering the courage I installed an AUX input on the CTS-V today.

Here are the instructions:

I will warn those of you who are faint of heart, this does require you to cut and splice 3 wires (it took me 2 days to summon the courage to try this, but it works fine).

Also, you WILL still have the ability to use all of your accessories (XM, changer, etc).. BUt this does require that you have the XM module on the car (for those non Vs)
Total price is about $50-60.

I am not the best at writing instructions so those of you who read this and are confused, e-mail me and I will clarify. Its hard on this one because there are alot of options.

Thanks miscreant and PACaudio for helping on this one.

The good news is that PAC should be able to come up with, if it's not already avaialble, the male connector version of that Micro64 Female connector that is use, so that a conversion harness comes with the adapter so no splicing or tapping should be needed. Reed, if you talk to Brett @ PAC, email him that pdf file I sent you, he could use that (I will as well).

I had e-mail conversations with PAC before doing this and asked if they planned to come out with anything. They said "no", but what I was planning to do would work. They gave me the diagram and said "good luck"....

So it's still in their court to come out with something, but its just a matter of if they will. All that is really needed here to require no cutting is those two connectors. The only problem I foresee is that the female side of the connector is ONLY in the XM module.... I dont know where else it is used.

This is why I was trying to get that connector to try to do it without cutting, but that didnt happen and I became impatient...

Oh well, this method works for anyone who wants to have it now.

The C2 (U57) connector coming from the back of the radio has low-level audio (left/right). Can you tap in there? It looks like its easier to get to the radio than it is to remove the rear deck.

Will this still work on a regular CTS with no XM radio????

You need to have the XM radio to make this work.

The reason: When you fire on the radio, it sends a message over the Class 2 data that says the XM is in the car and connected. The radio then changes so that when you hit the band button it goes.. FM1, FM2, XM1, XM2, AM.... and loops... without the XM module in there to say "I'm here" the radio will go: FM1, FM2, AM... and loop....

Quick note: If you have the XM module and dont subscribe, disconnect this connector and you will not see the XM band when scrolling through the bands on the radio.

So unless someone comes up with a device to tell the radio that the XM is connnected via the Class 2 serial, then you are out of luck. You cant listen to something connnected to the XM input without the radio being on the XM input and as I said above, that's not going to happen unless you have the XM module.

Sorry.

Can you not get the XM module from the dealer? I know it is an option but is it a factory installed or dealer installed option. GOT TO HAVE MY IPOD!

No. First, the C2 for U57 is at the amp. You need to be talking about the Radio Connectors. And second, that's low level audio OUT from the headunit, not in.

So I have XM with BOSE. Is this how I would connect an MP3 player? Do I need to buy anything else?

Since I dont have the XM module installed, maybe I can install the PAC between the CD player and the radio unit. I would probably have to insert a blank CD to force the radio to switch to the CD low level audio inputs? But then I should have volume control.

The CD player is built in to the headunit. There is nothing you can tap into. I e-mailed PAC and they said they are working on something for the CTS but they have no estimate on when it will be available.

Whats the Part Number for the XM module?
I would like to ask my Dealer about adding XM, but I'm afraid they wont have a clue about how to do it. Maybe a part number will help them.

I look at my window sticker....It said I have XM Radio. But when i scroll thru the source button...XM does not show up...The only thing that show is CD, FM1, FM2, AM.

How do i check to see if the XM module is there before i pull off the rear deck?

and the AAI-GM24 (http://www.pac-audio.com/products/aai.htm)?

seems to do the exact job!

unfortunatly it needs an external changer OR xm. i have an srx with internal changer and no xm :(.

EDIT: no wait a minute. it says "The AAI-GM24 will only work if the vehicle does not have both XM and external CD Changer." !!

that actually sounds good! :bonkers:
